5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky British-Style Humor, April 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Platinum Grit Volume 1 (Paperback)
I came to learn of Platinum Grit through its artist, Trudy Cooper, and her work on a mature but funny weekly webcomic Oglaf. Wanting to support her wonderful efforts I decided to pick up the first volume of Platinum Grit.

Her art has become more polished since the stories published in this volume, but then these stories were penned in 1994, before I graduated from High School. She was definitely well on her way to becoming an accomplished artist and has wonderful comedic timing in her art. Danny's writing is very much in the vein of dry, straight faced, British humor and I loved every minute of it. It also quickly takes a surreal, Douglas Adams, bend when Jer visits the Zodiac and attempts to change their order to save his life.

Hitchhiker's Guide and Red Dwarf both came to mind as I was making my way through this and, though I can always read the rest of the series online, I still hope Shadowline publishes subsequent volumes for those times when I want to curl up on the couch and chuckle an afternoon away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, it is worth it, June 17, 2009
This review is from: Platinum Grit Volume 1 (Paperback)
I started following Platinum Grit a while back on the web. I prefer print to web anyway, so this was a natural step for me. I am pleased to say that I feel my money was well spent on a quality product.

5.0 out of 5 stars We Need More, October 3, 2009

Trudy Cooper is one of the best graphic novelists. I bought the book, even though it's available to read on the web. I think the book is worth twice the price. I hope the publishers bring out the subsequent volumes soon.
The book is like poetry. Every time you read it, you get something new out of it. And you have more questions, which may get answered on the next reading.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great comic, December 30, 2009

A smart but unconfident Jeremy stands to inherit a castle if only he can survive a fight with his mad ancient cousin Dougal. He would be happy enough without the castle, except the girl he's fallen for, Nils, wants it for herself. The outlandish and sometimes supernatural adventures they go on are but a backdrop for the characters' interactions, their wit, and the flaws that make them frustrating to watch and all the more lovable.

I read all the available Platinum Grit online at [...] and loved it. For the second read through I got this volume: chapters 1-5. The artwork is even better in printed form and the story still wonderful to read again (and probably again). As one of the most enjoyable comics/graphic novels I've read, I'll be back for Volume 2 as soon as it is published.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny stuff, January 22, 2011
This review is from: Platinum Grit Volume 1 (Paperback)
I found this PB on my search for a printed version of oglaf, a webcomic with the same kind of humour, same artist(s?) but a little more sex.

So go on - buy this comic and get yourself a weekly dose of cumsprites, warrior princesses and horny barbarians @ oglaf...
