3.0 out of 5 stars slightly disappointing, November 17, 2000

Having purchased the first Platinum CD a couple of years ago, I decided to go for it with Platinum Too. I saw some of the songs on it and was so amazingly excited, particularly "Somebody Come and Play," "Take A Breath," and "Mah Na Mah Na." Unfortunately, the versions of these songs I know and love are not the ones which appear on this CD. I will admit to finding this more than a little disconcerting, but, after a couple listens-through, I didn't mind so much.

On the whole, it's a good mixture of Sesame Street old and new...but I still think the first one is better.

PLATINUM TOO is the follow-up album to the very popular PLATINUM. Both feature favorite songs from Sesame Street. PLATINUM TOO pretty much feels in the gaps left by the first album. Well that's not quite true because these albums only cover Sesame Street favorites through the early 1990s. Still, it's a great album and I've been giving it a lot of airplay on my webradio show. Some of my favorite tunes are:

"Counting is Wonderful"

"Caribbean Amphibian"

"The Grouch Song"

"Believe in Yourself"

"The Ballad of Casey MacPhee"

"Take a Breath"

"Mah Na Mah Na"

"One of These Things"

"One Small Voice"

This is a wonderful companion piece to PLATINUM and is a great album to own and play for kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just as good as the first Platinum, December 8, 2002
This review is from: Platinum Too (Audio CD)
This is an awesome CD. My son loves both the Platinum albums and he seems to like them equally. He won't ride quietly in the car without Sesame or Raffi. I think that Platinum Too is just as good or better because it includes some absolute classics that they left off the first Platinum album (The Ballad of Casey MacPhee, Take a Breath, Believe in Yourself, etc.)

Instead of making ONE really outstanding Platinum Album that included all the best songs, Children's Television Workshop seemed to want to make sure that each character was included on each album and that none got more than just a couple of songs. I am guessing they planned to do two albums from the beginning and so they split up their best songs. For instance, I think that both "C" Is For Cookie and The Ballad of Casey MacPhee are major favorites but they are both performed by Cookie monster so they chose to put them on separate albums. They also have songs that I really dislike on both CD's such as Lambara and ABC-Def_Ghi (not the alphabet song) on Platinum and The Word is No and Little Miss Count Along on Platinum Too.

I do agree with other reviewers on the fact that they didn't always use the recording I expected to hear but that I soon got used to the version they did choose.

Overall, both Platinum and Platinum Too are very fine CDs. I would recommend them to anyone whose child enjoys Sesame Street.
