Illa is back with a great album that finally has somewhat strayed away from the recycled lyrics that have haunted the last two albums he has released. Although he has added OKS, Ice Ice Baby, and Detenator again, the songs that are original and new are some of his most mature work to date. I found that the three rap/rock songs on the album were not that great but songs like Huslin, Rollin in my, and Ninja Rap 2 were tight, as were most of the other tracks on the album. My only complaint was the packaging looked like something that was done by some high school kid on Photoshop, but the music speaks for itself. Unfortunatley for Ice, I don't see it getting picked up and distributed well, as I visited 5 shops before i finally was able to find it. Hopefully his various TV appearences will help get this album the exposure it deserves, as it is awesome.

All the posative reviews on here are right this album from Ice kicks butt. every track on here is awesome good blend of rap/hiphop with some rock. I love this album if you hav'nt hear V-Ice since to 90's you are missing out he has totally changed and his music is his own now. He is no longer a puppet. Ice Rocks. Also check out Hard To Swallow & Bi-Polar those both rock as well.

Yours truly has been a long time supporter of Vanilla Ice. As a kid I was jammin' "To The Extreme"...right alongside Megadeth, Anthrax etc. I always liked the man due to the fact everyone hates him.....what you have to understand is that the "cheesy" rapper we know Vanilla Ice is from 1991. He was only the victim of marketing and appearence...whatever his label and producers etc wanted. You think half of the popular hiphop sh*t that everyone loves so much now isn't following the same route? Propoganda and marketing? Please. Listen to Eminem before he was on a big label (such as the Infinite LP)then what he's doing now. My point is proven. This record is worth purchasing though not his best. My two cents says "Hard To Swallow" & "Skabz" is some of his better work, despite sounding a little like that Korn/Bizkit bullsh*t. Being purely hiphop, the reviewer whom earlier mentioned of amazing samples and etc wasn't kidding. A little on the gangster hardcore side, but definately something to amp in your 15"s if ya got 'em. Ice is just awesome. He is procuring the music in his soul, and doing what most can't do nowadays....just being himself, not trying to make some label happy and be a mainstream moron like all the others on MTV/BET/Vh1.

As someone who has followed Vanilla Ice's music since 1990, this new album, Platinum Underground, stands up as one of his best. It's more hip-hop heavy this time, with loads of funky numbers! It has better samples this time than past albums. Survivor is funky, yet it could be autobiographical too in the lyrics. Dunn Natt proves that he can match well with the Trackstars. Tell Me Why is another strong song that questions about why people take their lives away. He remakes Ice Ice Baby, but with a very modern 2005 style to it versus the pop sound of the original. On several numbers Ice surprisingly lashes at some of the current rap competition and even Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky. He even goes after the Bushes. The few rock numbers on here are just as catchy and balance well with the street songs. I would have left out some of the short skits of the phone messages to Ice--liked the cheery one from Tammy Faye Messner. This gives even top shelf albums by 50 Cent, Eminem and even Kanye West's new album a run for their money! The lyrics are more explicit than before, but this is Ice in his rawest and realest form. If this album is overlooked in 2005, then people really missed out on this album. Vanilla Ice is back and he wants to take back his title!

Listen to some of the samples of this cd or hear full length songs. You will see that my 5 star rating is justified.

Vanilla Ice Paved The Way For Eminem...,
This review is from: Platinum Underground (Audio CD)
...and you KNOW it's true! This is a great album. People hate on Vanilla Ice for no reason. Give the guy a break. I had the honor of meeting him at a concert a few years ago. He's great live and is a really nice guy. He's stood the test of time and has made some music that we'll never forget. This album is no acception. His cover of Survivor is simply awesome. There is not as much metal on this CD as there is on his last couple albums, but there are a few heavy rockin' tracks such as "Step up or Shut Up" & "Persevere" He also shows a serious side on "Tell Me Why"...If you're considering buying this album, I say go for it... & buy Hard To Swallow and Bi-Pollar while you're at it AND STOP HATING!
