I have to buy lots of video equipment for my work and the tripods have always been a point of irritation for me. I kept having to replace the tripods because they kept breaking, even really expensive ones. After trying this one, I will never get anything else; it takes the cake by far. Basically, it's sustainable - the plastic hinges and the pivoting head won't break off easily even with tough treatment. It's light too! You won't find a better tripod for this price. Save yourself the trouble and just go with this one.

As a novice digital photographer and video maker this has been a terrific item for me. It fits my Nikon Coolpix and Flip Mino HD camcorder perfectly. I have shaky hands and when I go out to take pix of Oregon's beautiful scenery this is what I use. It pans very well and is easy to set up and use. In addition it is lightweight and comes with a shoulder strap travel bag. If you need a tripod this is the one to buy.

I did a lot of research to find an affordable and well balanced tripod for my Nikon D3000. This particular tripod has everything that I wanted in a tripod. It's tall, well balanced, easy to pan and tilt, and it comes with a tripod bag and a second quick-release head. When fully extended, it doesn't seem to wiggle as much.
Pros: -Lightweight -Nice Aluminum/platinum color. -Well built/balanced -Retractable spike tip -2x quick-release heads -doesn't feel cheap. -has a good load capacity -better value than other expensive tripods Cons: -N/A

This tripod was awesome! My cam's not very heavy I have a nikon D60 so this tripod worked great, was very easy to get used to! I didn't have to read the manual for anything. It's a little hard to figure out which way to turn things to get it back in it's case but this tripod rocks! :)

I rarely use tripods, but I needed something to throw in the trunk just in case. I was really impressed with this unit. Lightweight and well constructed for the price and it comes with a carry case and extra camera plate. This is not a Manfrotto by any stretch of the imagination, but it gets the job done. I have used it for several long night exposures (+60 seconds)and have not had a bad shot from tripod shake. I did sandbag it once for a very windy night shot on an exposed hill and those shots came out perfect.
Bang for the Buck - Buy it! You'll not regret it. I bought two, one for each car.

Yes, it's a great bargain and appears well made compared to, say, a comparable SLIK model at a higher price. I did have one problem as I used it with a Flip Ultra the other day. It seemed to "catch" every so often as I did a slow pan of my subject--a teacher in class walking slowly about (CFU) as she taught her lesson--I work in the area of teacher preparation. Now I have sprayed a tiny bit of silicone lubricant into what I hope is the correct tripod head bearing spots. Overall, despite this, I'm extremely happy with the unit. The removable cam attachment plate has its own twist handle eliminating the need to find a coin to tighten/loosen the cam from the plate that slides easily onto the tripod and is secured. A bonus is an extra and identical plate, also with conventional cam bottom threads. The bag is a nice touch, easy to use (it fits well!) and helps to protect the myriad of snaps and levers associated with any tripod. I am a little over six feet tall and the tripod fully extended plus Flip Ultra on top was quite comfortable for steady attended tripod use. I'll get back with an update as I begin to use the unit more and testing to see if the silicone "fix" helps. . .

Let's face it, you don't spend this much on a tripod and expect greatness but this tripod is pretty good. Plastic parts with aluminum legs keep this tripod easy to carry around. Comes with 2 camera plates and a bag too!
Things to watch out for: The bubble levels on the tripod seem to be off and and the bubble level on the plate is really hard to see when a camera is on it but hey, this thing has levels! If you don't want to spend the cash on a nice Silk or manfrotto, this tripod is where it is at.

This tripod is a great travel tripod, lightweight but extends to usable heights, and holds cameras steady. However, if you are looking to shoot video on it, be careful. Pans and tilts are relatively smooth, but it's a good idea to keep your image stabilization on to prevent any sudden jerks from ruining your video. For a plastic pan head though, it does it's job pretty well. However, if you have a sensitive microphone, or you are recording in a quiet environment, be careful, you will hear the plastic pan head scraping as it pans. The same goes for the cranking/vertical extension mechanism, it's pretty darn loud. For the price though, it's fantastic!

This tripod was everything I hoped and more. It is lightweight, collapses to about 2 feet and fits in the case it came with easily. Fully extended it is sturdy and stable. Okay, so the only time is was ever fully extended was when I first took it out of the box. You would have to be over 7 feet tall or standing on a stepladder to use it at it's maximum height!
I wanted a tripod I could stow in the car and carry with me on hiking trips. This little gem is so lightweight that, at the ripe old age of 48, I have no problems toting it up and down hills and mountains. The other reviews were all spot on and factored into my decision to buy this tripod. Thanks to all those who submitted feedback, it really made all the difference. I'm usually of the opinion you get what you pay for, and that cheaper is usually not better, however the word "cheap" does not apply here. If you are looking for an inexpensive tripod to safely hold your DSLR or camcorder, one that is light enough to carry around in the great outdoors, the Sunpak 5800D is the way to go! |
