This unit has a male "slip" connector, meaning that if you don't want to permanently glue it into CPVC plumbing, you will need a 1/2" CPVC female to NTP adapter (such as ASIN B002714JYS) and CPVC primer and CPVC cement. Of course you will also need the plumbing components, tools and knowhow to add a 1/2" NPT connection point to your existing plumbing, if you are not replacing an existing arrestor that has a threaded connection.

I can't imagine wanting to glue this into your plumbing permanently, since it _will_ need to be replaced at some point. Unfortunately, it is common practice these days to place arrestors like this inside wall cavities, never to see the light of day -- so _when_ they fail, they cannot be replaced without major household surgery. If your house was built in the last decade or so, it probably has arrestors concealed in the walls -- and the 10 year old ones are dead.

Many of these have "lifetime warranties", but that is pretty meaningless in the context.

Fortunately, when they fail they generally just stop doing their job -- they don't explode or leak. So you can add a new one in an accessible location, with threaded connections that will make it easier for the next homeowner, or perhaps yourself.

I used this when installing a water-powered backup sump pump. They shut off quickly and create a lot of water hammer. I plumbed the sump pump with CVPC, so it would have been more work to get a copper hammer arrester to fit. This glued in quickly and easily to a tee, and almost completely stops the water hammer. The pump only runs in an emergency, so I'm not worried about ever having to replace it (most hammer arresters have a lifespan of 10,000 cycles).

it would have been helpful if the description of the item had listed its dimensions. It turned out to be tiny compared to what I thought and didn't really seem to be what I needed.
