The great scholar of India Sir William Jones wrote, "It is impossible to read the Vedanta, or the many fine compositions in illustration of it, without believing that Pythagoras and Plato derived their sublime theories from the same foundation with the sages of India." Swami Paramananda (1884- 1940) does not assign one school over the other, but believes both schools had "direct vision". An outline of Greek philosophy is followed by comparing Plato and Vedic Idealism and the concept of the soul. The last third of the book reveals similarities when one reads passages from Plato's Republic, Plato's Symposium, the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads.

Although contrary arguments are not entertained, the similarities are clearly made. The book was originally copyrighted in 1924.
