Great for long hikes; carry one water bottle and refill from bladder. When considering buying these larger volume bladders, also consider the weight of this much water. You may want to see if you can get someone else to agree to carry it. ;-)

Great water bottle, use it every day...very strong, and can take a beating without bursting....only wish is that the closing mechanism had some sort of blue and yellow makes green type of indicator so you can be absolutely sure it's closed. I use it mostly at work and just pour water throughout the day from my table...the handles are strong and bomb proof...great product

I was very happy with the Platypus water tank. We are a family of 4, and we just hiked through the Grand Canyon for 3 days. I threw a couple of these water tanks in my knapsack, and was able to keep each of our personal water bottles filled through the 110 degree heat. The large zip lock opening makes the water tanks easy to fill; the small threaded cap makes them easy to decant into smaller bottles. The zip lock demands attention to seal, but once sealed it never leaked even with a good deal of bumping around.

What's good about this product:
1. Folds flat when not in use, so good for travelling.
2. Wide opening for easy fill for water/ice cubes.
3. Sits up nicely when full.

What's not good:
1. See those nylon black holders? When I opened the packaging, to my horror some black fibres were dangling from the handles INTO the water tank. Had to thouroughly flush it out. Doubtful on the build quality already.
2. The ziploc like seal requires some energy and force to close- not ideal when you've got the tank full. And no "sure" feel if it's close properly- you've got to test it by inverting tank to see if water leaks.
3. Does not stand on it's own when empty/semi full, so delicate balancing act when filling it up.

I recently used this on a three day Boy Scout outing. The 6 L capacity was very adequate to use for cooking for my five adult Scouters and myself. The zip lock, which has supposedly been improved, is still not fool proof. Only once was I able to get it zipped closed without having to crisscross the handles to keep it closed. I'd have given this product five stars if it wasn't for the zip lock issue.

These are great as a secondary water container in your pack. They take up almost no space when collasped, and are about a durable as anything collapsable can ever be.I use mine to treat water so I generally don't leave it filled in my pack. The suspect water never touches my primary containers,I fill this bag(very easy with the wide mouth opening) from the scource, treat it(polar pure),then filter it into my nalgenes and camelback through a ProHiker filter.I love that it lets me gather and treat enough water for most needs with minimal space and weight in my bag.

I have always purchased the cheap water containers for camping, but I upgraded on my last trip and will never go back. Sturdy construction and seams.

Perhaps my fingers are not enough like vice-grips, perhaps I was sent one that got through that was defective ... regardless, I could NOT securely close the zippered closure at top. Filled with 6 liters of water, it just kept opening up and after numerous attempts, when I finally got it to close (and not feeling too much peace of mind about that), it leaked! It's going back!

This is a great item for the multi-day hiker. It's very strong, collapsable & lightweight. When you stop for the day just fill this 4L container and you will have plenty of water for cooking, cleaning and drinking that night without having to return to the water source again and again. I also like that it is made of urethane with a BPA-free polyethylene lining with the SlimeGuard anti-microbial treatment. Very easy to fill and use. This water tank weighs only 12g empty. For me; this is a must carry item.

Love this - well made and the Ziploc sealed tight enough that I could attach my Sawyer filter and squeeze into another container.
