4.0 out of 5 stars groovy
After viewing the tape I found the instructions quite informative . I feel that my confidence level definitely increased.I use the tape to practice and feel sometime that I am actually playing with a live group.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the cost of admission.
Sadly this wasn't the great instructional video you could hope for. It has some very basic instructions and rythms in broken english by our master percussionist from Germany. The video and sound quality were also quite poor making it hard to differentiate between the different techniques. Your better off paying someone for a live lesson.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's good enough to learn basic techniques, October 29, 1999

Putting English and filming quality aside (we're not here to learn either), I'd say that the video achieves it's purpose - to teach basic techniques.

I would agree with the first reviewer that it has almost zero entertainment value, especially when we compare it to LP's videos. This video achieves what it seems to be setting out for: as a low cost instructional video. Lottmann carefully tackles the hand techniques and he does give a slightly wider number of rhythm patterns and hand techniques on the bongo than LP's "Adventures in Rhythm Vol 2: Close-up on Bongos & Timbales" which although there Richie Garcia did a good job, there were too many instruments covered in that video to give details.

The focus on only two drums here gave a bit more focus & time on each drum. You'll get your money's worth here $ for $. I must say that Lottmann and his team could have done better with a more enthusiasm when playing together at the finale. Still, there aren't too many focusing on the bongos out there yet, and Lottmann has done reasonably well in teaching conga basics. For the Congas, I believe the wide LP video selection does the congas justice. You just have to pay more to get them all!! :-P Happy drumming! :-)

This is a good video, you'll have to watch it many times, if you have no talent at all. Like my self. I reveiw this tape alot. If you do have talent you'll be able to leap tall building.
