My 5 year old daughter is enthralled with this monkey. Playdoh comes out of his mouth....There is not a lot of extra pieces to lose like most of the playdoh sets. Reasonable price. Don't hesitate.

Okay, this set is cute but my son who is 3 1/2 (within the recommended age) cannot fully operate this set on his own. He wants to play with this by himself but winds up frustrated. The head on the monkey requires a strong force to push the play doh out, as well as the tiki head. He can't keep the ball of play doh between the monkey's hand and push down his tail at the same time either. This would be better for 5-6 years old minimum. Overall, it's a cute design but not completely user friendly for toddlers. (unless you are their to help at all times and your kid allows you to help!).

I bought this playset for my nephew's 3rd birthday. He LOVES it, as does my 5 year old nephew. The monkey "molds" different things with his hands (such as a pineapple). You can make the monkey grow hair or have his tongue stick out, which they think is lots of fun. There are also several shapes on the base that you can mold. It comes with several jars of playdoh and is a good deal for the price. I was very pleased with this purchase.

I got this for my three year old and while he likes playing with it, I hate the mess. The dough gets stuck inside the head and where the tongue comes out so keep a butter knife or toothpicks handy. The coconuts do stay on the monkey's hands pretty well and do look like where you're trying to create for he most part.. you just have to tear away extra dough around the shapes. My son plays with this once or twice a month..

I am not a huge fan of nutty monkey. He takes up a ton of room for what he is capable of. The head piece is really hard to clean out, the hand attachments are too difficult for a kid to do (mahhhhmmmm! come change it to the banana!) and while there are a lot of molds along the bottom, I'd really like something that was a little more child-friendly. I end up doing most of the work and if I'm gonna bust out the play dough, it's because I want a few minutes of time to myself. Sorry Nutty Monkey, but you stink.

My 5 yr. old grandson loved this toy but don't let any Play Doh dry inside of it! You'll never be able to get it out, rendering the toy useless!

This is a cool toy, but not too inventive for Play Doh. It is just another manifestation of the put the playdoh in and squeeze it out. My daughter loved it because it was a monkey, and she loves monkeys, but if you are like me and already have several play doh toys like these, don't buy it.

My 3 year old received this as a Christmas gift and was so excited to play with it. She thinks he is cute and likes the items he makes (hair, flames, and items from the 3 molds) but there is no way she can do them by herself. The head and tiki are really difficult to push down to make the hair and flames and she can't hold the play-dough between his hands while working the tail to squeeze them together.
And really...that's all it does. We have spent more time making birthday cakes and birthday hats for this monkey than playing with anything he is actually meant for.

Despite the appearance of extruded hair, and extruded tiki flames, the Coco Nutty Monkey does not contain an extruder mechanism. The tail lever activates the clapping hands which have 2 half molds, that come together to form a complete cast. That is the best feature of the toy, the problem is there are only 3 included molds; a pineapple, a banana, and a tough-to-recognize monkey. the molds are high quality.
The hair and tiki torch flames are from nothing more than pushing down with the removable heads against a ball of play doh. The problem is that the holes are fairly small, so it requires a strong force to properly get the play doh through, not something a small child can do easily. there is an assortment of simple tropical designs cut into the base, such as flowers and lizards. could make a nice cookie mold. but play options are limited. |
