Not only does my 4-year-old love learning Mandarin the "Mei-Mei" way...I do, too! Mei Mei teaches through a perfectly balanced blend of speaking, singing and actions. I like the fact that the production isn't slick or glitzy but seems very natural, including "real" kids. Everything about it is accessible, including the teacher herself. And you get your money's worth as the video doesn't skimp on time or content. I've often heard my daughter singing to herself the songs about pulling the carrot out of the ground and Honcai's sister...a genuine testimonial to the effectiveness of (and enjoyment provided by) this wonderful video. We have been clamoring for a "Volume 2!"

My daughter and I enjoy this video very much, and watch it often. She is now 5 and was adopted from China at 2 1/2. The production may not be "slick," but the pacing is very professional. The children who sing, play, and practice their Chinese remind us of the real-children-doing-real-things segments on some of the best public television and Nick Jr. shows. The instructor is very engaging, and her enunciation is outstanding. My daughter is picking up not just words and phrases, but the tones and rhythms of Mandarin. We're hoping for a sequel soon!

I bought this tape for my daughter about 1 1/2 years ago and I can honestly say that we learned faster from listening to it then from attending Chinese school for 3 years for an hour every other week!You will find yourself singing the songs and speaking basic Chinese conversation with your child in no time!The children are Adorable and Mei Mei has a special way of teaching that Makes you learn it whether you are trying to or Not!:) I also liked seeing Caucasian children learning to speak Chinese.. I think that has a positve impact on my girls who are Chinese with Caucasian parents..My second daughter who we just adopted in July at 14 months of age LOVES to sit and watch this tape with her 5 year old sister! She becomes mesmerized by it. In fact , it is the only video that she will watch. We are very hopeful that Mei Mei will make a second tape so that we can continue to learn in the easy and fun manner that we enjoyed from her first video! I have seen others but I really recommend this one if you want to learn Chinese the fun and easy way! Mei Mei has a unique way of presenting it to you and also includes an easy to follow booklet. There are very few beginning Chinese language videos for kids available so I am grateful for everything I can find. This was the first Chinese language video I purchased and it's okay for a start. There is no accompanying booklet or printed words to follow along so you'll have to listen very closely to get the pronounciation corect. Some cute songs and exercises. The production quality is okay - not as slick as other kids' videos.

Play and Learn Chinese with Mei Mei is a favorite educational video for both children and their parents. My two kids are enamored with the first tape and now there are two more videos by Mei Mei Hu. They are equally as wonderful as the first. Mei Mei's videos have made a difference in the lives of many adoptive families. The reason is just as Adoptive Magazine stated, "Using songs, movement and activities, teacher Mei Mei Hu delivers a powerful learning experience in an enjoyable way."

Our 2 daughters (both were adopted in China) absolutely love this video!!!! Jade & Jasmine are almost 3 & 5 & have watched it since it was first released. They never get tired of it & watch it over & over. Actually, Jasmine had NEVER even acknowledged the t.v. being on, but the very first time I put in "Play & Learn Chinese with Mei Mei", her head literally spun around & she was glued to the screen for the entire video. Without a doubt she recalled hearing the tonal language & it has been easy for her to learn Chinese effortlessly from "Play and Learn Chinese with Mei Mei". There is a lot of movement for the children to follow along with & they love to imitate the other little ones as they are watching. We're looking forward to a second video being produced!!! [...]

My 15 month old daughter loves to watch Chinese with Mei Mei. She does not move while watching this video. Along with my older children, we all are singing with Mei Mei.

I have just ordered Play and Learn Chinese with Mei Mei Volumes 2 & 3. I eargerly await to see my daughters face when we watch them.

These videos are a must have for children learning chinese. I have read a few poor reviews. When purchasing this video, one must keep in mind it is developed by educators for kids. My daughter loves to watch Mei over and over again. Your children will not be disappointed.

Our now 15 month old daughter learned to use her VCR by herself just so she could watch Mei Mei over and over! She actualy learned to turn it on and hit the "play" button because Mei Mei was there! She loves the songs, the games, and of course, Mei Mei herself. In fact, one of the first things that she has spoken (after Ma Ma, Da Da, etc.) is "Ai Ya Ya" (a song lyric).

Our older kids watch as well and have learned most of the songs just from watching with their little sister.

It's so clear that Mei Mei loves teaching young children how to speak and sing in Chinese. What a wonderful gift she has.

This video has become a "favorite" that is requested time and time again by my 2 granddaughters. They are now almost 3 and 5 years old but it captured and held their attention even when they were much younger. They STILL LOVE IT!! I highly recommend this video and look forward to the time there is a second one produced. We will be first in line to purchase it!!

This video is an excellent way to introduce Mandarin to young children. Mei-Mei and her young students (mostly 5-8 yr. olds) use a simple format involving repetition, songs and games to teach a few basic words and phrases. My youngest daughter gave this an implicit thumbs up when she begged to watch it so many times, I took to telling her that Mei-Mei was taking a nap! More importantly, she was able to learn the Mandarin words for parts of the body, count to ten, and sing a couple of Chinese children's songs, all before she was two! And the pronunciation on the video is so clear that even this middle-aged Mama was able to really "get" the four tones of Chinese for the first time. Heartily recommended.
