5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Solo Effort
Anybody who is reading this is obviously a fan of Tim "Ripper" Owens and his work with Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Yngwie, and Beyond Fear. This is his first solo album where Ripper controlled the whole project from writing to mixing. This is his first solo album where Ripper controlled the whole project from writing to mixing. Overall, it's a little different IMHO from anything you have heard him do in other projects but at the same time the songs are of a very high quality. Definitely not crushing like Beyond Fear but like I said, I think most will like the approach. And of course, his vocals are stellar!

The guitar performances on this album are top shelf - rhythm and lead. The leads are extremely tasteful and well placed. It just all works. Just an incredibly well written project from TRO!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ripper tears it up on his own, May 28, 2010

I have been a Ripper Owens fan since he first silenced the naysayers with Priest's Jugulator and basically revived them with new life. After stints with Iced Earth and Beyond Fear he proves he can hold his own with his Debut Solo Album "Play My Game". This album is a killer from start to finish! I couldnt wait to get this and i certainly was not let down in any way. He delivers the goods on this one and this Album has a great backing band including guitarists like Bob and Bruce Kulick, and Craig Goldy. I really hope that he does another Solo Album like this in the future. In the meantime i have this to tide me over. Thanks Tim!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ya for Ripper and his solo album, November 2, 2009

Before i got this cd i was a bit worried that ripper wouldnt be able to pull through. It's pretty hard to not to judge someone so harsh when their last band were judas priest and iced earth. But after hearing i can say it's a pretty good cd. It may not be what many are expecting but it's a cool solid album. I don't know why some people are giving it really bad reviews. The music is awesome and so are the vocals(come on it's ripper pssh that guy gots some pipes). So just get the cd and give it a good listen!!!

GOOD BUY

p/s the album cover looks freakin awesome!I would totally love that as a poster!

2.0 out of 5 stars Played and Lost, June 10, 2009
This review is from: Play My Game (Audio CD)
I write few reviews, but when I do I review a product for what it is, as opposed to what it is not. I do not expect a Tim Owens solo disc to be a Judas Priest, Iced Earth, or Beyond Fear album, which was mediocre at best. In fact, I hardly care what style it is, so long as it's good. And simply put, this album is not good; it is bad.

When Blaze Bayley left Iron Maiden few expected much. He ended up delivering albums that easily surpassed his work with Maiden and each stands on its own. I was hoping Tim Owens would do the same. After all, the albums he did with Priest were fairly lame to begin with. As it turns out, Tim's apparent need to prove his song-writing abilities has proven nothing but an ability, for the most part, to write bad songs.

There are some decent musical moments, and an occasional song does succeed (to a point), such as No Good Goodbyes. All too often, however, good musical moments are not fully realized or are ruined by comically bad lyrics and Tim's mid-range warble.

A work of "art" (term used generously here) should not necessarily be judged on a pass/fail basis. However, a game is either lost or won. I chose to play Tim Owens' game and lost - $13.99 to be precise.

Great vocals yes but terrible songs. Stick with Ywngie Ripper you have your best post Priest work to date with him. Beyond Fear is also way better than this.

4.0 out of 5 stars ripper shows you what he is made of, June 8, 2009

this solo effort by the great singer who once fronted judas priest, winters bane, and iced earth, goes it on his own.
a sensational lineup of premier players, such as billy sheehan, jeff loomis, rudy sarzo, doug aldrich, steve stevens ripper puts together the ultimate metal cd.
his vocals are spot on,from the opening cut "believe",through the entire cd,he has firmly established himself as a great singer with loads of range.
the work is indisputably the finest he has ever done, and draws the line of his former styles where he had to fall in line with what the bands he fronted demanded of him.
this is a must have, and any ripper fan knows what he is capable of achieving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar solo effort, June 17, 2009
This review is from: Play My Game (Audio CD)
I loved this CD on the first pass. I thought the vocals were strong and the musicanship was fanatastic even from some players that I never thought much about. If you like Heaven & Hell or Dio's solo work you will love this recording. This is "TRUE", "OLD SCHOOL" metal...
