4.0 out of 5 stars Slippery When Ill Re-Visited
This is vintage Vandals. What cheez-it doesn't understand is that this is actually a reissue of the late 80's LP "Slippery When Ill", which came out right before Fear of a Punk Planet. This is Punk. Goop is a classic, and Clowns is sheer camp. The Vandals best album outside of Peace.

3.0 out of 5 stars cheez-it=Moron!
Well I couldn't help but laugh when I saw cheez-its review. If he had been paying any attention to the vandals lately, he would've known that they don't play these songs live, and that it's a re-release of their Slippery When Ill album. They didn't make this album to make $, they did it for the fun of it. The Vandals aren't rednecks. They're more punk than you'll...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Album The Vandals Ever Recorded, March 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Play Really Bad Original Country Tunes (Audio CD)
This "joke" is one of the best albums of the 80's. The reissue here is still drop-dead hilarious, but the addition of "Play That Country Tuba, Cowboy" it is a veritable "milk through the nose" laugh riot. Just like with post-punk pranksters like El Vez and The Dead Milkmen, neo-baby-punx of the 21st century are most likely too serious about a genre that died 20 years ago to see the genius here. Maybe one day, they will lighten-up enough to realize that their "punk" is just mainstream fluff, and outrageous, out-of-bounds albums like this one will be the ones to endure the test of time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Goop all over the punks, May 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Play Really Bad Original Country Tunes (Audio CD)
Shame on the poseurs for not paying attention. Yes, this is a re-issue of the semi-legendary "Slippery When Ill" with a couple of changes. The Vandals aren't the clown princes of punk for nothing, so if you don't get it maybe you better stay home. Joey and the fellas never did a better job of laughing at themselves and at the pseudo-punks who cried about the band going country. Yeah, it's missing "Shiite Punk", but what's in a tree-fort, anyway? Buy it if you're not a sheep.

4.0 out of 5 stars Punk geniuses strike again!, October 2, 2000
This review is from: Play Really Bad Original Country Tunes (Audio CD)
Punk legends the Vandals prove again why they're better than the rest. 10 hilarious punk-a-billy tracks that throw water balloons at country music while playing it. The lyrics are brilliant as usual on a Vandals disc, but this disc isn't the Vandals CD you should start with. Vandals fans who REALLY get the Vandals will appreciate this clever record. Best tracks include: "Goop all over the phone", "Susanville" and "Elvis Decanter". Great CD for Vandals fans, just make sure you're familiar with their other work or you'll be left scratching your head like Cheez-it was. Vandals rule!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vandals rock!, May 31, 2009

Very funny Vandals album. Not all that punky, obviously, but still rather punky. Also, catchy tunes, very funny, and rockin'. One of my favorite Vandals albums!

4.0 out of 5 stars heading in a different direction, March 9, 2008
This review is from: Play Really Bad Original Country Tunes (Audio CD)
While I don't think this album was made as a "joke" (they were actually serious here albeit with some humor added), it was heading in a different direction from the band's earlier incarnations. They had lost Stev-o (vocals Peace Through Vandalism) and Dave Quackenbush came in on vocals, not to mention that most early L.A punk bands had broken up and no one wanted to listen to punk anymore.

I used to listen to it (Slippery When Ill) and it was actually pretty good stuff. Peace Through Vandalism will always be a classic, long live Stev-o! I saw them live in the early 80's with Stev-o before they kicked him out, then they went downhill.

The early stuff is the best because it shows them before they became greedy and turned to mall punk type crap.

Peace Through Vandalism/When In Rome Do as the Vandals

1.0 out of 5 stars Really Bad, September 24, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Play Really Bad Original Country Tunes (Audio CD)
Good title for the album because it is really bad. The only saving grace is Stan Freese's "Play That Country Tuba, Cowboy." How many people can triple tongue a tuba? I never even listened to the whole album because it just did not suit my taste and I like country music. Oh well....

They even warn you in the title. It's bad. It's terrible! It's hilarious, but virtually unlistenable.

I have read reviews saying they were "experimenting" and "going a different direction". No they weren't! They remade Slippery When Ill into a horrible country album. Its a joke! Just like the Shingo Japanese Album. They arent experimenting with Japanese rock-they were remaking their stuff into some bizarre Japanese stuff! It's hilarious!

Buy it for fun, you will only listen to it once, and probably not all the way through.

first of all, congrats to the real punks who actually knew this albums original title (Slippery When Ill). When I first heard this, I did not comprehend what it was about. But I kept it and listened to it every now and then. As I got older, It finally hit me, albums like this one are about the musicans ability. Yes, this album sounds like the Vandals are making fun of country but, I think they were trying to experiment with each of their own styles--to see what they could do. This is why they and other bands from the 80's are still going. I wish the re-release of this had kept the original title, and Shi'ite punk. There was no need for the last two songs. Be a Smart Punk, be wary of Punk Light Bands, and death to top 40 and egotistical bouncers. Sorry for any spelling or grammar errors. Keep it alive!
