5.0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive, Interesting and Educational Book, April 20, 2008
This review is from: Play Therapy: An Introduction (Paperback)
Play Therapy: An Intruduction, by Carla D. Carmichael, is a very well written and comprehensive introduction to Play Therapy. Written from the perspective of a professional who is a licensed play therapist, one can learn what real play therapy is and how play therapy is conducted by a true professional. Many years of dedicated practice and schooling are needed to become a licensed play therapist, and that is why this book is such a great resource. References in the text to other well renowned licensed play therapists, such as Dr. Mark Barnes, Dr. Carol Norton, Dr. Byron Norton, and Dr. Garry Landreth, are insightfully advantageous. Models are thorough of toy boxes and room designs, and examples of interventions are complete and detailed. I recommend this book to anyone, whether novice or professional, who would like to learn more about play therapy. Play Therapy: An Introduction also opened my mind to looking at my own personal theory of counseling. The techniques presented can work with whatever theory that a person utilizes in his or her practice. I highly recommend, again, this book to both novice readers and professional, licensed play therapists.

1.0 out of 5 stars editing?, July 16, 2007
This review is from: Play Therapy: An Introduction (Paperback)
This book is poorly written and apparently not edited. The topic is interesting, and it covers a range of theories, but it is often repetitive, convoluted, and disjointed. Some editing would have been extremely beneficial in translating the author's knowledge and experience into an effective textbook.
