-Ai Miyazato, LPGA Tour player

"Through their coaching I have gotten to know myself better, I know what to do to not get in my own way, and I allow myself to dream!"
-Suzann Pettersen, LPGA Tour player

"We share the same vision - that it's possible to birdie every hole and shoot 54, and that there are no limits to what you can achieve. In many ways, I am the embodiment of the VISION54 coaching philosophies."

What Golf Writers Say:

"Their belief and work with integrating the physical, mental and emotional through intention and practice is a model for the future."

I have read all the books by these two great teachers of golf, and still think EVERY SHOT MUST HAVE A PURPOSE is the most universally applicable and compelling of the three. This latest book returns to emphasis on the "think box/play box" concept as fundamental to every golfer's consistency (and I agree) and incorporates aspects of the practice routines from THE GAME BEFORE THE GAME. The new components are the profiles of golfers who needed help to get out of slumps, return to an enjoyment of the game, and adopt some routines and key mental images to reach their higher potentials. Since I did not identify with any of the profiled individuals--that is, I love the game, play it for the fun of competition and the joy of self-improvement, and I am too old to care about having a 4-6 handicap, this is not my favorite of the authors' three books. I just gave it as a gift, however, because for a person who might like a condensed version of the heart of the VISION 54 coaching plan, this might be the most appealing read.

I have had the fortune to participate in three workshops at the VISION54 school in Phoenix. Most recently in February 2011 and this book encapsulates the three days in an excellent way. Buy this book, read it, make notes as you go, figure out your area of highest return on investment and get to work! VISION54 is such a stark contrast to the "fix" centric approach that the golf teaching community has these days. The June issue of Golf Magazine promises "Longer Drives in 30 Seconds" and "Find the Fairway in Two Easy Moves"! Make sure your swing is *functional* (doesn't have to be perfect...) and then focus on the 8 Playing Essentials and 2 Practice Essentials. It will not only make you a better golfer, it will make you a better person. If you are curious about how to get into a State of Peak Performance on the course, the approach in this book will help you. Embrace it and enjoy the journey.

My current handicap index is 2.9. When I picked up this book it was about 6. I post hole-by-hole scores after every round. It had long been a mystery to me (and most of the people I play with) why I didn't play better golf. I've played for 40 years and have always been "pretty good" but my results never seemed to match my apparent ability. I've been told (by good players, former tour pros, and teaching professionals) that I have a terrific swing, length, short game, etc. and that I should be consistently scoring in the low 70's and at least breaking 70 on occasion. Before reading this book, my typical scores where in the high 70s and I frequently had "blow-up" rounds in the low to mid 80s. Mostly as a result of 2 or 3 bad holes. I might sneak in a 71 once or twice a year but had never broken 70 on a par 72 track. I knew the problem was mental but I couldn't figure out what I needed to do to break through. This book changed my entire mental approach and has allowed me to play with much greater freedom, focus, and confidence. I shot a 71 within one week of finishing the book and shot 69 a couple of weeks later. I frequently play 9 holes in the evening and in the last 6 months, I have managed to shoot 32 twice, rounds of 33, 34, and 35 many times. These scores where posted under competitive conditions on a fairly difficult golf course. Now, my "bad" scores are in the high 70s and my typical scores are in the low to mid 70s. I shot 74 yesterday with no warm up and hadn't touched a club in over two weeks. Now, during most rounds, I feel like I have a good shot at shooting under par even when I make a few bogies. I feel like the birdies will come and they usually do. Even if they don't, I don't get upset.Read more ›

The series of 3 books should be part of your core collection. They have perfected the way to communicate ideas about golf, not just the golf swing as many other books do. They helped Anika become the #1 woman player in the world. They can help you be the best you can be.

So much of golf is mental. Love how these women aren't trying to change your swing, just helping you do what you do best more consistently. Easy, inspiring read that really helps you focus in on your success zone.

Lynn and Pia stress how the choice of life's decisions and the importance of staying committed to those decisions combined with a steady tempo of awareness will keep you on your game - not only in the game of golf -but- in everyday life. An excellent read for all!
