2.0 out of 5 stars Not a long lasting pad, September 19, 2003
This review is from: PlayStation 2 Dance Mat (Video Game)
These pads are like most ddr pads out there: poorly constructed and not durable. The pad slides around when you play on it, and one of the buttons stopped working about 8 days after I bought it. I thought I'd pick up a cheap one since I needed an extra pad when friends came over.

Do yourself a favor and head over to RedOctane.com for some quality pads. I have their Ignition pad, which is way better than this type of cheap pad because it has a cushioned insert which slips into the middle and keeps the pad from sliding around and is easier on your feet. Another friend has the regular redoctane pad with pad cover and it works great, too. Overall, don't buy the Intec pad unless you know you won't be playing DDR for very long.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just for starters....then on to better things, November 16, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: PlayStation 2 Dance Mat (Video Game)
This pad is great for begginers. Durabiltiy shouldnt be a deciding factor when buying this pad(this pad isn't as durable as others out there) mainly because this pad is for starters. Once you get used to DDRMAX, you'll wanna go and invest in a more expensive pad, maybe an import hard pad. But for now, this should do. Not new to DDR?..then this pad is NOT for YOU. Dancers with experience shouldn't bother with this pad. The pad is a head-ache for intermediates, a waste of time for experts, but a good buy for begginers. I have this pad, mainly for for my friends new to DDR, but also have a hard pad for the more experienced players. NOTE to Begginers: This pad will reqire more percise movements in order to work properly, but in the long shot, using the hard pad later on will seem very easy once you master this pad. (...)you cant go wrong starting out with this pad.

*Be careful where you use the pad, make sure it's in a stable-non slippery surface or you will slip- most pads are like that- even those that claim to have non slip under surface. It all depends on where the user choses to place the pad.

*For those who have never seen a hard pad for sale...you are looking at anywhere between $80-$100, maybe more. They're not that easy to find unless there's a local import market near you. So, (...) start with this one, wear it out, and move on to more finer pads.

On a last note...there is a Mad Cats Pad available....but it's the same quality as this with different designs. I have tried the MAd Cats Pad and its all the same. The Red Ocatne pad is also great, but falls between $40-$50, Not for a tight budget.

1.0 out of 5 stars Soft pads are for little kids and novices, August 4, 2004

If you have any aspirations of actually becoming a decent Dance Dance Revolution player and moving up to the more challenging and satisfying songs, do not buy this pad -- or any soft pad, for that matter.

Soft pads slide on the floor. They crumple and wrinkle up. They miss steps and fail to register sometimes. The surface feels the same all over, making it impossible to tell where your feet are without looking down.

More advanced soft pads are available, which are thicker, but they still slide and have sensitivity problems.

The only way to properly enjoy DDR at home is to purchase a metal pad. Just look up "metal DDR pad" on an internet auction site. Yes, they are expensive, but they'll also last for a very, very long time and put up with a lot of abuse. They also won't slide, will be extremely sensitive, and you can tell where your feet are without looking down. If you want the arcade experience at home, a metal pad is the only way to get it.
