silly, quirky and a heck of a lot of fun,

This review is from: PlayStation 2 Eye Toy (Video Game)
My friend brought this item over yesterday and we spent HOURS playing the various games, multiplayer modes and playroom features. I'm 26 and he's 32 so right off the bat, you know it truly is fun for all ages.First off, there really is no controler needed. Nada. Don't even bother plugging it in. Everything is handled on-screen via buttons you control by "touching" them. Secondly, make sure you have a good light. We found that an overhead ceiling fan light worked better then a standing lamp. Then, load up a game and be silly. Really, it's as easy as that. The games are a good mix. The collective favorites were "Kung Foo" (where you have to bash the ninjas and evil monkies who are bent on your destruction. A GREAT way to be silly, make goofy kung-foo moves and kick their butts. Very satisfying.), the fireworks one (wow...pretty...and what a neat feeling of actually interfacing and controling something. it feels like half conducting something and half computer interface a la "minority report") and the window washer (here's a trick: jump up and down to use your body to help wash the windows!) where, as someone else said, you really DO work up a sweat. (It's the longest two minutes of your life!) All the games though are fun and pretty diverse, though not all of the twelve are quite as replayable or enjoyable, it's a well-rounded collection. This product and it's mini-games are like a cross between DDR and Para-Para. ;) It will definately appeal to those who enjoy that type of game and makes and EXCELLENT party game. (Especially when you get a new high score and you get your pic taken for your victory pose) Some of the other things are neat too. You can record video clips and save them on the memory card (full motion complete with sound, although the built-in mic is pretty crappy). You can also just have the camera on with your choice of special effect for the times you want to just goof off but not actually play anything. Kids will love it and you can even get your mom to join in. It's really utterly simple and there's no actual skill required. Just be careful you don't end up playing so long you're arms get sore the next day like we did!

although i can see nobody in america has heard of this yet you can be assured you will soon as it is the most fun you can have with a PS2, especially if you have mates round. Its even been number 1 in the UK for weeks already, outseling pokemon. The eyetoy is a camera which sits on your tv showing you on the screen. you then have to move around doing certain things eg kung foo, hitting men that appear or wiping the whole screen in a window cleaning game. although it may not sound that great when you experiance it it really is well funny. a little tip is to watch the person playing, not the screen. it makes it all the more enjoyable. Get It!

THIS IS COOL! You Must have this technology!,

WHAT A GREAT INVENTION!I bought this for my house in the UK before it was released anywhere and I must say that it is one of the coolest inventions. Great for exercise, fun, and laughs! Comes with a dozen ace games. Kung Fu is the best. Cleaning Windows will make you sweat, and you'll dance to the beat with the dancing games. Great for Kids and Big Kids (i am 26) This is a great technology and with games like Police 24/7 for EYE TOY for PS2 it is unstopable! I am looking forward to the US release next month! Buy this! It is so worth it! Must have!

Incredibly Fun Alone or with Friends,
This review is from: PlayStation 2 Eye Toy (Video Game)
I was on a gadget kick last week and bought myself a PlayStation 2 Eye Toy Camera. I admit I thought it would be silly - but it has turned out to be AMAZINGLY fun!We got the EyeToy bundled with a copy of EyeToy Groove - a dance game. I know that the regular games that come with the base Eye Toy system are sort of cheezy, but EyeToy Groove is SUPER fun. The song selection and movements are great single player and multiplayer. It's like a dance pad for the top half of your body! I'm going to review Groove separately, so let me just talk about the Eye Toy component here. The camera was incredibly easy to use and install. You just plug the cable into the USB port beneath your controller spot, and POOF it's on. A red light lets you know if its too dark in the room, but we didn't have any trouble using it day or night. A ring lets you focus it so you are crisp and clean on the screen. We played many multi-player games and it had no problem at all sensing our movements and creating really cool video effects around us. I can easily see that this camera will be useful in all sorts of games and applications, especially as more PS2 Online games come out. Highly recommended - especially if you can get your hands on the Groove software!

Lots of Fun and Good Exercise, Too!,

I had my doubts about this game until I got to try it out in a store. Even with about 10 strangers looking on, I still had a blast playing the washing windows game, and everyone was laughing and amused. I didn't feel like an idiot at all, which amazed me!! It was on my fiance's birthday list, and he received it, and we all had a lot of fun playing it at home. Most of the games are a lot of fun, although I'm not a big fan of the ghost hunting game or the mirror image game. The effects screens are pretty neat and would be a great tool to keep a young child amused, in my opinion. There seems to be something for everyone here, and the games are easy enough that almost anyone can try them out, even the dancing/beat games. A minor drawback, in my opinion, are the loading times. I understand that this is a fact of life, and they aren't incredibly long, but the games are so short that it seems like you spend half of your play time waiting for things to load. A major drawback is the fact that the room you are in needs to be light for this game to work properly. Also, if anything dark is too close to where you are, the game often does not register your movements properly. We have the game set for a dim room, and no matter what we do, the only way we can get it to work right is in the daytime, with the sun shining, and the curtains completely open. We have two bright lights in the room, but no matter what settings we put the game on, or how we move the lights, it just never works quite right at night. Also, our bed is about 5 feet from the TV (we usually sit on the bed or stand right in front of it to play), and the game has a hard time registering movement in front of things such as the headboard (honey colored wood), pillows with colored cases, and even the painting we have hanging above our bed, a good 8-10 feet away from the camera. Despite this drawback, I still give this game 5 stars. I think it's a great value for the money, considering you get both the USB camera and the game CD, and it's definitely a unique experience, and even though I don't think it's something you could play every day, it's a great game that in the long run will be more than worth the money spent on it.

Our 2 year old loves it!,
By Monty (Vancouver, WA, USA) - See all my reviews

I bought this for our 2 year old daughter in the hope it would help her develop her hand eye co-ordination and improve her reaction skills. After a brief few minutes of being confused, she soon caught on that she could clean windows and bash the rats (similar to a 21st century whack-a-mole), and was having a great time. We played with it for an hour and a half, which for a 2 year old shows it must have been a great hit. There are a few really cool "games" on this for the little ones. There's a play room with a variety of effects. One has a bee hive which they can bash and make all the bees come out. They can then choose whether to agitate the bees and make them fly about or let them go back in the hive only to be "bashed out again". This is especially good for any children who like Whinnie the Pooh, as the beehive is very "pooh-ish". Another good game in the play room is "rainbow". Moving about causes a rainbow effect on the screen, and it's convincing enough for a toddler to think she's painting on the screen. With the help of the simple games in the playroom a toddler can really grow into this game while developing her skills. Anyone wanting a game to play solo would probably become bored very quickly, but as a family or party game this is even better than Worms - because there's no confusing controller for newcomers to learn hence no endlessly explaining to granny "press triangle". Easily worth the [money] we spent on it..., I just hope developers pick up on it and introduce more games.

SO MUCH FUN!!!,

My oldest son purchased this game for his 9 year old brother's birthday. We have had this game for about 2 weeks now and have never had this much fun with a "video game." The boys (5 & 9) always want to play it...(my husband and I always want to play it) shhh don't tell anyone and we hope the neighbors are not looking in our TV room windows after the kids are in bed. I had it up at my parents house over the holidays (all the nieces and nephews were in) It kept the teenagers up most of the night. They had so much fun that their parents were going to purchase it on the way home to avoid not being able to get it for Christmas. Everyone LOVES this game. You stand in front of the television, the camera sits on top of your set. You position yourself in the outline, choose your activity and play. The game is like a motion sensor. You move your hands or arms and the game does the rest. You box, do karate, spin plates, wash windows, so much more. This is a must for any PS 2 system. Everyone wants a turn. It is so great to see the kids "active" in front of the TV for a change! You won't be sorry with this purchase! I cannot say enough positive comments about it. Well worth the money for the entertainment factor. Possibly the exercise factor too. Noone will sit still while this is on. No more of the "watching paint dry" when the kids have the TV for video games! I recommend purchasing this game before it is too late. A hit for Christmas! Rosemary

add variety to gaming, this may be it,

I bought this for my 10year old for his birthday party. He and his friends loved it as well as the adult guests. It's very different gaming, it's physical from head to toe which makes this game fun. Great interactive game for kids parties I recommend it.The only thing that seemed a bit aggitating was that the focusing of the camera takes awhile because apparently the lighting of the room makes a difference. But once you have the setting in place everyone has their laughs and fun. No gaming is cheap but for this the price is reasonable you get 6 games along with the camera! that's the price you often pay for 1 videogame. The games are relatively simple, I only hope they come out with more challenging interesting games so this product can have some long term use.

This is the most fun Play station game we own. We have had it almost a year now and it is just as good as I thought it would be when I purchased it.
We have had children as young as 4 and adults as old as 65 thoroughly entertained by Eye Toy. Not having controllers makes it easy for just about anyone to play.(Yes, even video game illiterates!) We especially enjoy that it provides exercise for our daughter and friends versus sitting immobile playing other games. We recommend this to anyone who wants to get silly and have fun while getting exercise!

Family Fun,

We just purchased this game and our whole family played for a couple of hours before we got too tired and couldn't play anymore. We plan on breaking it out for Thanksgiving for all of the extended family to play and make a fool of themselves. Both kids (2 & 11) enjoyed playing a watching and I can't think of a better video game that includes the whole family working out, laughing together and enjoying eachothers company. We will be using this often and can't wait to show our friends.
