5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly December 30, 2010

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
After waiting months for this product to be released, I finally received my order today. Of course I ripped the box open and tried it right away with my Roland TD-9 drum kit.... And it worked flawlessly. I 5-starred the first sing I tried on Expert Pro Drums... A song I know well enough to perform on stage. It's amazing to finally play the song in RB3, instead of playing the game. Now the fun is more about learning all of the more complex parts to my favorite songs. Could hardly be more happy with the adapter. The build quality is great, except that the PS logo on the PS button fell off immediately upon handling the unit itself, but it's easy to understand they just paste on the PS or Xbox logo depending on the unit. All the other buttons have great action, for what it's worth.

Two minor points to be aware of:
- You WILL need a MIDI cable to connect this adapter to your instrument of choice; one does not come bundled.
- You may (probably will) want to change the MIDI value on your drums so that an open hi-hat triggers as a blue cymbal... If your drums support such a feature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless implementation December 31, 2010

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
It works perfectly on a 8 yr old Casio Keyboard. Once I acquired a MIDI cable it took me longer to figure out the keys (10 seconds) than the setup.

Don't FORGET to have a MIDI to MIDI cable!!!!

As a long time ROCK BAND fan I am totally happy with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works with Casio CTK-496 Keyboard January 31, 2011
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I purchased this adapter so that I could use my Casio CTK-496 MIDI keyboard that I had bought in 2006. The adapter itself is made of very hard plastic with buttons that stick out a little more than regular controllers, although the Dpad is like the 360's. Plugging the adapter into a ps3 usb port works like a regular controller w/o the shoulder buttons and analog sticks; with a $3 MIDI cable I got from guitar center I plugged that from the keyboard's MIDI out port and into the adapter. Worked the first time with rock band 3; the keyboard must be turned on for the adapter to detect it, however one of the reasons for getting this over the mad catz keyboard is that the keyboard's internal speakers work normally so you can hear the notes from any of the built in timbres(voices) coming from the keyboard as well as the game, or mute the keyboard. The adapter mapped the C3-C5 keys for the game like it should, and the pitch charting for rock band 3 pretty much fits the keyboard's sounds, except for one on-disc song that sounded a little out of tune.

Over the month I've had with it, the only issue I had were 2 rare occasions where the TV sounded like a burst of feedback (similar to when you plug in amp cables/headphones while its turned on), I think possibly due to the connection of the MIDI cables. EDIT: Looks like the 2/1 RB3 update will fix this distortion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, I can play RB3 with my TD-7 drum kit October 30, 2011

This adapter works great with my Roland TD-7 drums in Rock Band 3. I kinda wish it worked with Guitar Hero. I play my TD-7 with Guitar Hero by going into practice mode were I don't get penalized for missing every hit. I did not like doing it that way in Rock Band 1 and 2 because of only 4 lanes. Now, I'm getting used to Pro Drums in RB3.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last someone invented this! July 20, 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I'm a drummer and I have an Alesis DM5 drumkit. This MIDI adapter works perfectly. Its easy to use, it's well made and I'm loving it!

I recommend it if you already have an electronic drum kit and don't want to have to buy another one just to play RB games.

By the way, in the manual they say it works with RB2, Lego Rock Band and Green Day Rock Band.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I have been using my Roland TD-3 drumkit with the Rock Band games since Rock band 1. I was using an adapter designed by a guy named "Seth" over on the Rock Band forums. It was a crude little device but it was programmable, worked with both RB and Guitar Hero and was fully upgradeable everytime a new version of the game came out. Sadly, due to a lightning storm a week ago, my 3 year old adapter got fried. I was about to contact "Seth" and ask about getting a new one but I then saw the Midi Pro adpater as a gold box special on Amazon. The price was a lot less than what I paid 3 years ago for the custom adapter so I decided to give this a try first.

I recieved the adapter and easily hooked it up to my drum kit. I already had a midi cable due to my other adapter so I was up and running within minutes. I did not have to calibrate anything or adjust any crossover settings. This thing just worked perfectly with my Rock Band 3 game. I was able to play like nothing had changed.

The only downside to this adpater is that it is not programmable like my other custom one. I was able to switch modes on my old adapter to work with Guitar Heroes additional mapped lane but I can't see a way to change that here. I was also able to change various mapping on my old adapter and the also cannot be done with this one. I have not found a way to map an open hi-hat pedal yet with this Midi pro.

But overall, I am very happy that I could get something this cheap to do 90% of what my much more expensive adapter did. I hate Guitar Hero anyway so I don;t think its a huge loss. I just wish that this adapter was available 3 years ago!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeds Expectations, Works Without a Problem! January 4, 2011
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Well like everyone else that waited a while for this, I was excited to try out this adapter. I've been playing piano for over 15 years and have a Yamaha P95 digital piano at my apartment. I knew beforehand that the adapter DOES NOT come with a MIDI cable, so I ordered one through Amazon a few weeks prior for $5 shipped; the quality is good, and it wasn't a big deal to order one separately (be sure it's male to male).

I had no idea if the adapter would work with my P95, but I crossed my fingers, plugged it in, and loaded Rock Band 3. The buttons on the adapter worked instantly, and I quickly began a song without problems. I slid my fingers across the center of the piano and immediately saw the colored note lights flash across the screen. Perfect.

Pro mode is different if you're used to playing an instrument, but after about an hour I felt decently comfortable "reading" the notes on the screen. I don't play by ear and am usually more on the 'technical' side of things, where I read straight from sheet music. This really only uses one hand. It was, however, a lot of fun jamming out to the songs that supported Pro Keys, and I look forward to playing more over the next few nights.

As far as easy of use, connectivity, and the seemingly unlimited amount of possible products supported, this adapter wins the full 5 stars and is highly recommended for any music fan who want to connect their MIDI-supported musical instrument to Rock Band 3.
