All that and more,

I should preface my comments by saying I don't have a DVD player. So that feature of my PS2 was great. Yes the controls are not up to a remote control's standards, but it's good enough. The feature that it is lacking the most is a counter to tell you the length of the DVD and time remaining, etc. but that's a small detail. For PS1 games, it's just like the original. Haven't seen any problems. No long load times or anything. For the games in this bundle, Madden 2001 is all that. Game Pro recently had it listed #7 out of the top 15 games (Console, PC, and arcade) of all-time. It looks great, the AI is great. The players actually catch the ball instead of getting it through their backs. I can't give thi game enough superlatives! NBA Live is very much a first-gen game and should get better. It takes the players a while to shoot after you press the button. Seeing the whole screen is still a problem. The post-up moves are good. SSX is a great game. It's very highly rated. Once your characters have improved it makes your play (races and tricks) much easier. The Vertical stand is ok, although you can get cheaper stands in stores. I bought my PS2 from Amazon thinking they would run out and they have in other bundles, but not this one which is the one I wanted since I wanted these 3 games. (I don't like NBA Live enough to play it often). To do over again, I would say only buy this from Amazon if you can't get a PS2 in your area. ... Availability in stores may be limited in your area. In store is better if you're on a budget and want to get these games later. Last thing, BE SURE TO GET A MEMORY CARD!

Solid System,

Everyone seems to be comparing the Dreamcast with the PS2 and making some legitimate gripes. However, I ask this of people... if the PS2 came out before the Dreamcast, would you be making the same gripes? If the PS2 came out over a year ago, I'm sure they would have the full capabilities that Sega presents and then some. Also, many complain about no internet connection, etc... The PS2 is capable. What Sony has not done is sell the components to make it a realization. It's all a marketing ploy so they can build up hype and sales. Give the PS2 a year, and it will surpass the Dreamcast in gameplay, selection, and capability.I personally found the PS2 attractive because of its backward compatibility and the ability to play DVD's. I will say that the games are quite good for being such a young system. Also, the DVD playing is sufficient. Although the controls are awkward because you have to use the analog controllers, it still suffices as a DVD player. There is a third party remote, but I don't trust third party equipment. I'll wait for something better. As some have said, the vent is quite loud at times. The hum will be annoying at first esp. if you place it on a hard surface, but it's something you'll get used to. Should you get the PS2? Yes. Should you get it now? No. The price will definitely go down with time, and it'll be more affordable then. Also, there will be more games later this year. Also, for those who don't have a DVD player, this system will keep you entertained two-fold. If you're going to compare it to the Dreamcast, ask yourself where the PS2 will be in equal time. You can't compare a 5-year-old to a new born and automatically say that the 5-year-old will be smarter in the long run just because it can read and the newborn can't.

Well I just got my system yesterday I LOVE IT!!! I was completly amazed when I poped in Madden 2001, the graphics blew my mind!! SSX is really cool, but NBA is lagging a bit, its a good game, but the crowd really doesnt get into it at all, leaving the action kinda out. But other than that its an awesome system, and I love it.

the ps2 is the ultimate game machine with games like metal gear solid 2, and final fantasy x,and gran turismo 3 these games shows off the graphical power of ps2 these games alone blows anything that we saw on xbox and gamecube away. also the sport titles there better than ever with madden, and nfl2k2/nba2k2,and nba live series just keeps getting better this will be the game system to get even after gamecube and xbox comes out

Xbox Vs. PS2 (a fair review),

I agree the Xbox does have better graphics, (if not currently, then it will in the future) but if you're looking at the Xbox as a system keep in mind the number of games that are available. No where near the games that are out there for PS2. Plus you get backwards compatability with PS1 games. Also Microsoft is considering pulling the XBox out of japan, which roughly translates into the Xbox going down the drain. If you know anything about the gaming industry is that it all starts over there. For Longevity in the sence of the hardware that is in the console, then choose Xbox becuase it is definately more advanced than PS2 For Longevity in the sense of constant new and creative developments then stick with the PS2. It will be around a long time!

The PS2 is at the head of the console war right now. And it doesn't look like it'll slow down. Since the online aspect of the PS2 has just been introduced, now you can play online with people all over the world.Yeah, enough said. If you're into gaming, buy it. Great system.

Your all stupid if you think that the PS2 is anywhere near as powerful as the Xbox. in fact Xbox has MORE THAN twice the power of the weak little ps2, and if your buying ps2 cause of the games, WAIT about 2 months and you can that game with extra stuff AND MUCH BETTER GRAPHICS

Don't buy the Sony PS2. Big Defect! They will not repair!,
By "cbell10" (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews

I bought the Sony Playstation 2 game console, along with (...) accessories, last year for Christmas. The game console comes with nothing. No remote, no games (unless you buy the so called value packs), nothing. You even have to buy the stand for it separately! But that isn't the problem. (...)The remote control unit is REQUIRED if you want to use the console as a DVD player. It just will not work any other way. Several weeks after Christmas, the whole thing just quits working. I called Sony and they told me that the remote control unit (that I bought from the Sony store) caused the console to break and they would not cover the cost of fixing it. They said my warranty was VOID! The reason? Because I used an unsupported device to control the DVD player. First of all, I bought the remote control unit from Sony. Second of all, the package had a BIG PS2 logo on it. Third, the Sony sales person told me that I had to buy that unit in order to use the DVD player. And last, there was no other remote unit offered in any store, anywhere! To make matters worse... When I called Sony, the first thing question they asked was if I used a remote control device with the system. They knew that this was a problem and they sold me the unit anyway. So, if you want to invest (money) in a game system this Christmas, don't buy Sony (...). The games were not even that great anyway. Go to Media Play and try the new X-Box. The games are much better. And (...) you get the complete package. Two game pads, three games, a carrying case, everything. And Microsoft backs it. When have you ever had a problem with Microsoft supporting their products? Never! Or if you have a problem with Microsoft, get the new Nintendo system. Just don't buy Sony. Never buy Sony! |
