5.0 out of 5 stars Great console, great game, August 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: PlayStation2 Gran Turismo 3 Value Pack (Video Game)
The PS2 is definetly the best console, and thats because of the games. You might hear a lot of talk from the xbox or gamecube but without good games they're lost. Right now the PS2 is building a great library of games: Gran Turismo 3, MGS2, Twisted Metal Black, Devil may cry, and the list goes on and on.

If you take GT3: is the best driving simulator ever created on any system, period. In this game the PS2 really show its power. The game has the most beautiful graphics ever created for a racing game, a soundtrack that keeps your adrenaline high, a huge selection of cars and tracks, and finally an awesome realism that will keep you playing this game for months and months.

You can't be wrong with this bundle it includes everthing you need and the price is right. Don't pay atention to the reviews that give only 1 star to the ps2, that are from some guy with a lot of time in hands and spends the whole day wrinting bad reviews for the ps2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let the facts speak for themselves, August 19, 2001
This review is from: PlayStation2 Gran Turismo 3 Value Pack (Video Game)
The problem with most game system reviews today is that there's far more emotion than logic. Writers dwell upon why a particular system is their own favorite system, then give little more than lip service to what other gamers may think.

In an effort to counter these often senseless reviews, I present this: a compilation of system comparisons. This information is intended for people who have not yet purchased a system and are trying to determine which piece of hardware is best for them.

SEGA DREAMCAST [] Release date: September 9, 1999 [] Graphics support: 128 bits [] CPU: 200MHz [] Memory: 16MB main, 8MB video, 2MB sound [] Controller ports: 4 [] Extra features: Built-in 56k modem [] Game library: Low hundreds (stagnant)

PLAYSTATION 2 [] Release date: October 26, 2000 [] Graphics support: 128 bits [] CPU: 294MHz [] Memory: 32MB main, 4MB video, 2MB sound [] Controller ports: 2 [] Extra features: DVD player, PlayStation backward compatibility [] Game library: Low hundreds (growing) plus several hundred PS1 games (stagnant)

NINTENDO GAMECUBE [] Anticipated release date: November 5, 2001 [] Graphics support: 64 bits [] CPU: 485 MHz [] Memory: 40MB comprehensive [] Controller ports: 4 [] Extra features: Game Boy Advance systems can be used as GameCube controllers [] Game library: Estimated 15-20 at launch (growing)

MICROSOFT X-BOX [] Anticipated release date: November 8, 2001 [] Graphics support: Unconfirmed [] CPU: 733 MHz [] Memory: 64MB comprehensive [] Controller ports: 4 [] Extra features: Built-in online capabilities, hard drive will enable several new features [] Game library: Estimated 15-20 at launch (growing)

I greatly advise you to get out and try the systems -- all the systems -- before you purchase any of them. But parents, when in doubt, use the following logic: Which system are games on which Little Jimmy is always talking about? There you go; you have your answer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid System, Solid Game, August 29, 2001
By
This review is from: PlayStation2 Gran Turismo 3 Value Pack (Video Game)
I personally found the PS2 attractive because of its backward compatibility and the ability to play DVD's. I will say that the games are quite good for being such a young system. Also, the DVD playing is sufficient. Although the controls are awkward because you have to use the analog controllers, it still suffices as a DVD player. There is a third party remote, but I don't trust third party equipment. Thankfully, Sony has come out with their own remote which is the best one to get. As some have said, the vent is quite loud at times. The hum will be annoying at first esp. if you place it on a hard surface, but it's something you'll get used to.

Should you get the PS2? Yes. Should you get it now? Maybe. The price will definitely go down with time, and it'll be more affordable then. Also, there will be more games later this year. Also, for those who don't have a DVD player, this system will keep you entertained two-fold. As for the reading materials, it's stuff you can find online. Extra controller and memory card are necessary.

Now the X-Box and GameCube are out. For pure power and punch, the X-Box and GameCube provide the capability for better graphics. Are they noticeable? Yes. Are they that much more that the PS2 is useless? No. I've played games on both systems and although they look great, they're still behind on gameplay. As we all know, graphics only get you so far, and it's gameplay that makes a system last. It's possible that X-Box and GameCube will produce better games later this year like the PS2 did. It seems like it takes a year for any new system to get into the flow of things. Nonetheless, the PS2 is a sure thing and there is a wealth of great games out right now that will compete with anything else out there.

5 stars for the system. 5 stars for the game. This is an excellent introductory game for the PS2. The graphics and gameplay are simply top notch. Just play it once and check out the shadows and lighting on some of the courses. Every little thing has been covered in this game. The replays alone will drop jaws. As for the reading materials, it's stuff you can find online. Extra controller and memory card are necessary. Overall, this is probably the best package anyone has to offer. If you plant to buy a PS2, get this bundle.
