A Playboy editor gives the skinny on what’s to drink in an illustrated, complete guide with more than a thousand recipes.

For professional mixologists looking for new taste sensations to serve or party-givers who want to offer their guests a range of drinks, the perfect handbook for “spiritual” success comes from Playboy magazine. Written by Thomas Mario, the magazine’s former food and drink editor, this expanded edition features 350 photographs, additional chapters on wine, beer, and sake, and much, much more. The 1,400 mouth-watering cocktail recipes suggest something for every season, mood, and occasion. Hundreds of useful tips cover every detail of bartending, from drink-mixing and presentation to stocking the bar. And it’s all in an easy-to-use format with recipes organized by alcohol type, and tips for throwing swinging theme parties, in cool Playboy style, at your pad.

This is a nice compilation of drinks. The book features all the necessary information on glasses, trimmings, mixing and even party-planning. This book is suited to both the professional mixologist as well as the simple social drinker looking for some new ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars An appealing bartender's guide to mixed drinks, January 10, 2003
A sturdy, handsome leatherette cover with a reader's ribbon inside makes for an appealing bartender's guide to mixed drinks providing an unusually comprehensive reference. Here are local and famous mixed drinks organized alphabetically by title for quick bartender reference. If only one such guide were to be included in a discriminating library, the Playboy Bartender's Guide should be the item of choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book, my go to drink recipe guide., June 12, 2010

I love this guide. It is indispensible. Better than Mr. Boston's and Bartender's Little Black Book which are both good titles.

Explores every aspect of barmanship and details what every ingredient, garnish, and drink implement is and how to use it. Explains the origin, history, and use of the entire palate of spirits and beverages. Details cocktail & dinner party etiquette. Unique recipes that unit for unit taste better than the same drink described differently in other books. Respectfully details the cocktail event from a perspective of classic entertaining and culture.

It has many classic and older generation drinks long out of vouge for mature and responsible drinkers and their palates. Don't let the "Playboy" title fool you. This book is NOT for the person that likes to drink out of navels and shoes or to be out of their mind blitzed inside of 30 minutes. If your looking for "purple nurples", "sex in some dirty alley", and other under age drink slammers this is probably not your drink guide.
