5.0 out of 5 stars Chicks with Sticks... February 27, 2012
I received this coffee table book as a gift from a friend of mine over the holidays...This friend is someone I usually find myself with
late at night drinking damn fine scotch and smoking an assortment of cigars at NYC's finest smoking establishments..

Knowing I was a magazine buff, he thought I would enjoy the history that Playboy and Cigars have together....
The book is a whimsical look at the history of the cigar and includes a variety of basic educational information...But, most importantly,
the book takes the reader back into time when Playboy was every man's (and boy's dream)...The book's nostalgic tone, for me,
also allowed me to remember the waft of cigar smoke on our family deck growing up as my Dad puffed away during summer months..
a nice memory that still comes back to me every time I spark up a new cigar...

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool book with good stories. February 13, 2014

It's a cool book! Perfect for the cigar collector / aficionado. Makes an awesome coffee table book for my cigar room. If you are looking for a book full of nude women smoking cigars, keep looking, it does not have a lot of that, but it does have a lot of great stories, history, information and photos. Cool, Classy book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding February 23, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
When done correctly cigar smoking is part of a life style. No matter your background, education, or wealth a good cigar becomes the great leveler that allows people from different aspects to share a common hobby. The Playboy Book of Cigar captures that essence and looks great on either your bookshelf or table top. I've bought several as gifts. They've all loved it and some of them even ended up giving the Playboy Book of Cigars to their friends as gifts. A great addition to any collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart, Refreshing, & Straight-forward February 22, 2012
This book does a great job of encapsulating the joie d'vivre that is the cigar lifestyle. Sigmond encapsulates what many refer to as "the good life," and put forth an excellent resource for the hobby smoker who wants to learn more about the tobacco craft. Even if you fashion yourself an aficionado, it never hurts to have some "research" near your humidor and this should be your go-to-guide.

Cigars Cuban or Non-Cuban are all the rage now, especially after the growing success of Nicaraguan and Honduran cigars. Playboy THE BOOK OF CIGARS is an essential read for an aspiring aficionado or a long time cigar smoker. Sigmond captures the true essence of the cigar business within the pages of this prolific read. Personally I would recommend this book to ANYONE and EVERYONE who is interested in cigars on any level...

4.0 out of 5 stars Playboy review May 9, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This book was also purchased as a gift. The person it was purchased for wanted a couple of extras to give to his cigar buddies, so I'm guessing it must be a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Primer for Taste and Class February 29, 2012
Not too long ago, there was a time when men didn't dress like outcasts from the Little Rascals. When cocktail mixers didn't come out of a squirt gun. When a tailored suit meant exactly that. And a fine cigar was as much an accoutrement to a man's wardrobe as his cufflinks. This book is a celebration of all that, and more.

What Sigmond has done here is not merely defined the essence of cigar smoking--the hows, whens, whys, and whats that should be (but all too frequently aren't) the makeup of any good cigar book. There's more information here that I have EVER found in any other book of its kind. Simply put, the guy knows his stuff. And it shows. But more important, there's that undefinable "something" about smoking a fine cigar--that sweet spot of luxury, of catering to yourself for a change, of taking a brief respite in the trials of life to sit back and light up.

This, I think, more than anything (especially these days) is what cigar smoking is all about. And Sigmond presents this lifestyle and packages it in its truest form: the Playboy lifestyle. It's not about sex (though the models sure are nice to look at), and I think that's been forgotten. Remember it here, along with everything you need to know about cigars and--if you already know it (or think you do)--a nice reminder of what it means to be a man sometimes. And that's NOT a dirty word.

Good job all around!
