Playboy comes out with a new video called California Girls. It has Suzanne Stokes (POM 02/00) on the Cover. Sounds like a pretty hot video, with fresh new faces right? Not really. Suzanne's segment lasted one minute and forty-five seconds. That's it! I timed it. The scene shows Suzanne in various skimpy bikini's, and every once in a while the camera pans past her and she isn't wearing the bikini. Before you know it, the scene is over.

Playboy defines this video on the back of the cover as a collection of playboy's greatest California scenes from the past. There's no new stuff here. Ninety percent of the video consists of segments from previous videos. Maybe it's 100%, and I just haven't seen all the scenes before. Some of the scenes date back to the late 1980s and early 1990s. As you can imagine, this results in very poor and grainy DVD quality for these segments.

There are scenes from more recent videos, such as Playboy's Pajama Party. The scene of the girls lying around the pool from the Pajama Party is included on this video. Nice segment, but I already have it. Also included in this video, are various scenes from the Wet and Wild videos. Once again, some of them are nice, but it's old stuff. The only thing new in the video, as far as I can tell, is Suzanne's short appearance and a four or five minute scene featuring Summer Altice. Summer's segment shows her running and posing on the beach in and out of a bikini. This was probably the highlight of the video because it was new, or should I say, it's new to me. This segment will probably appear in the 2002 Playmate Calendar.

Overall, not much if anything is new here. If you are a collector, you should probably pass. If your new to Playboy video's, you can get a decent assortment of scenes with beautiful naked women.

This Playboy DVD is mostly a collection of older vignettes with just maybe a few new scenes. There are 11 video segments here, but the times vary vastly from 2 minutes to 7 minutes each, some really short and some quite long.

Only 3 or 4 of the segments appear to contain new footage. The segments with Summer Altice, Suzanne Stokes, and Brande Roderick were all new (although Brande's scene might appear on her Playmate of the Year DVD). There was also a nice swimming pool scene with Leisa Sheridan that I've never seen before on any of the Video Calendars, even though she was a Playmate in the early 1990s. This is Summer's only other Playboy appearance besides the Wet & Wild: Slippery When Wet DVD.

Of the other segments, 3 of them appear to be from the 1st 4 Wet & Wild titles that came out on LD and VHS, but haven't yet appeared on DVD. One is a nice beachside scene with Wendy Hamilton from Wet & Wild 4, while another was a disco dance sequence from Wet & Wild 3.

The Bethany Lorraine study date scene came from the Girls Next Door: Naughty & Nice DVD, while Julie Cialini's broken air conditioner scene came from her Playmate of the Year DVD. Corinna Harney also had a stranded car scene that was probably lifted from her POY video, also. The final scene is a collection of two scenes from the Playmate Pajama Party DVD, which includes a poolside scene with several Playmates, and the shower scene with Playmates Elisa Bridges and Vanessa Gleason. This DVD cuts the scene short, though, as it doesn't include the full body massage that these two lovely ladies get after the shower.

There is a still frame gallery, but all of the pics don't appear on the DVD. These still shots seem to have come from the magazines, not screen captures from the DVD.

There are no bonus features on this DVD, despite it being a new Universal release. On the new segments, the video quality is quite sharp, but on the older footage, you can see the video quality suffer.

Playboy DVD collectors can skip this one, maybe just rent it instead to see the new footage. For new collectors, it might be a nice collection of footage to introduce you to Playboy DVDs, but it doesn't rate well against several other available Playboy titles.

Don't waste your money. Not only is as near I can tell 95% or more of video is recycled, its all already on other playboy dvd's. There should be a law against this couragous rip-off. Is there a no-star option?

Overall not a bad video, but much tamer than other more recent Playboy offerings. Tameness likely due to the fact that many scenes are "Best Ofs" that date back to the early to mid nineties. There were a few very hot scenes--my favorite being scene #2 starring Brande Roderick. What an angel she is!! The camera was nice enough to give many enticing close-ups of her anatomy!! Another outstanding scene starred Leisa Sheridan in a "home alone with her boyfriend" type of thing. She has the cutest smile I've seen in a while, with quite the body to go along. Suzanne Stokes, Julie Cialini and Summer Altice also had super sequences. The only problem I found with this video is that since many of the girls in it are older Playmates, I did not know their names, which takes away a little bit for me.

Summer Altice is the only reason to buy this ...
