5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked
This game is very addictive. It took me about 15 minutes to figure it out, but after I did I couldn't tear myself away. You can transition between adding on to the mansion and making magazines. SO when you're bored of one, just start doing the other. Plus, there's hot avatars and faux sex. Gotta love it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bugs galore!
This has the potential to be a great game. A nice blend of a business sim and well...the Sims. C'mon, what red-blooded American male hasn't dreamed of being Hef at least once in their life?

But it doesn't deliver. Bugs with the models, the AI, graphics...you name it. It's an entomologists dream. Two weeks after going gold there are still no patches for issues...

Maybe someday I will be able to recommend this title, but certainly not now. Stay away.

2.0 out of 5 stars Snore..., September 17, 2005

You are looking for a more titillating Sims with a management component mixed in? Well, look elsewhere...

This is one boring game. It tried to steal a lot of ideas from The Sims, but they are all implemented badly. Wanna build a business relationship with a rock star? Just click the "business conversation" button often. Creating the magazine itself is boring too. It always happens exactly the same way. Photo shoots are boring pretty much right away. And as far as the sexy content goes... well, it ain't sexy.

If I were you, I'd pass on this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Can't compare it to the sims, because there IS no comparison, February 19, 2005
This review is from: Playboy: The Mansion (CD-ROM)
Ok let's face it. This game will mainly appeal to the teen-age crowd, for obvious reasons. But as far as game-play value, Playboy: The Mansion leaves a great deal to be desired.

Every "month" it's the same thing...host parties, get interviews from celebrities, take cover-shots, ect. It's all very repetative and bland.

I'm not the kind of person who quits playing a game after just a few days, but I found myself un-installing it only after a few hours of game-play.

For those who say you cannot compare Sims to Playboy: The Mansion, you are correct. Playboy: The Mansion does not even belong in the same leauge as The Sims.

1.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, February 1, 2005
This review is from: Playboy: The Mansion (CD-ROM)
If you have played any other type of sims game this one would seem a bit shallow. After a while you notice that the characters react the same way everytime a particular interaction is performed. For example; When Hef offers a gift he reaches behind himself to get it. The person whom he is interacting with always tries to look over his shoulder moving left & right as he does this. It might have been nice if the game design had a bit more randomness of action in it.

My Windows version of the game has some sort of glitch that appears every time you do a wardrobe change during a photoshoot. At first the digital model looks fine, but after you attempt a change of clothes, a digital cover appears on her head. It looks like someone took a rag and draped it over the digital model's head. I suspect the game code controlling the physics and movement of the model's hair is the problem. Hopefully the software makers can come up with a patch to repair this problem.

On the plus side, it is fun to run the magazine empire. This is probably the best part of the game. The extras are also nice. You have the option of giving all your playmates a boob job. This makes watching the models walk and dance around a lot of fun. Watch closely, you will see the model's arms pass right through her breasts as though they weren't even there!

If you are already playing Sims 2, this game will probably seem limited and repetitive. It doesn't have nearly the depth of character Sims 2 has. I suggest waiting until this game shows up on the discount rack.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little frustrating, July 28, 2005

This game is a lot of fun and is very entertaining. The bugs that plague the game, however, detract from the overall experience. Even after downloading the patch, I found that I had no music playing, the game freezes, people disappear and some items such as the pool floats seem to be caught in a loop. It is still a blast to be HEF though.

I got this game a while back and I have not played it recently but I love playing it. I was not into the naked women too much but I loved having the ablility to own a magazine company and do photo shoots. I was glad that the only part of the women that was shown were their breasts.
