Very good, if not necessary,

This review is from: Played In Space: The Best Of Something Corporate (MP3 Download)
Something Corporate is that band I want to hate about half the time, but just can't. They absolutely exude high school snottiness in everything from McMahon's nasally singing to the frequently generic pop punk guitar riffs to the constant references to getting high and the entirety of songs like "If You C Jordan." Still, Andrew's lyrics and piano work often strike an emotional chord in me, and the fact that they stand out above this band's aforementioned throwaway elements attests to their greatness.
But this applies to Something Corporate's entire body of work, and odds are you already have an opinion on them. As for this album, the unfortunate truth is that most of the songs on the first disc can be found on either "Leaving Through the Window" or "North," both of which can be purchased used for very cheap and may each flow better as albums than this collection does. The track selection is good for the most part, but tends to focus more on the lighter side of the band than the heavier deep tracks from each album that I've really connected with. The most valuable inclusion in this collection is definitely disc 2. It includes a few tracks from their foreign release "Songs for Silent Movies," most notably the absolutely breathtaking "Konstantine," and a few other tracks. Overall it's a good collection with some very good songs, but you'll probably be better off just buying their two main albums and then downloading disc 2 from this.

It may be called their Best Of CD, but it plays like a pretty typical set list. After not having seen them in years, I'm really hoping this is the prelude to a national tour (not just 3 dates). The bonus material on disk 2 is enough to justify buying it. I've had all these songs for years (what die hard fan hasn't?), but the remakes are quite awesome. Besides, what's $10 for your favorite band?

I have loved Something Corporate (and Jack's Mannequin) for quite a while now. I have all of their US released CD's. This was a great addition to my collections because it contains an EP (Disc 2) with a variety of songs that are either new releases or have only previously been released in other countries. I recommend this CD very highly, but if you are getting it via digital download I suggest using iTunes as there is a bonus exclusive song included with the album, "Letters To Noelle".
