Somebody Promote This Guy!!!,

If I didn't know Chip Shearin (Marion's touring bass player, cowriter of 2 of this CD's songs and a contributing producer and arranger), I probably wouldn't know anything about Marion Meadows. I've known Chip since he was a fledgling bassist in middle school and was in several local projects with him as he grew and matured into the bass dynamo he has become. He hooked up with Marion some 10 years ago and they have been together ever since. And that's how I got to be familiar with Marion's work.
This guy needs a better agent to promote him. On a soprano, he is better than Kim Waters and, in my meager opinion, better than Kenny G. For all his notoriety, Kenny has one move on the sax -- a long, extended run in whatever key he's playing (normally G)and he uses a particular breathing technique not always employed by sax players to hold his notes for long stretches. But that's his hook. Marion doesn't rely on anything other than an innate talent for playing jazz. It's not out of the Sidney Bechet/Illinois Jacquet style at all. But for what he's playing, it doesn't have to be. It's smooth jazz; not a watered down version of standard jazz, but a fresh interpretation of the jazz genre done with a funk base. The arrangements and the musicianship attacks with vigor and poignancy. Each song is carefully crafted to highlight artistry, but not to overpower the listener with indistinguishable notes and runs and riffs. Whether he's on his signature soprano or a surprisingly strong tenor, Marion scores a real winner with this effort.

WHAT AN AWESOME EXPRESSION OF SOULFULNESS AND SMOOTHNESS! SWEET GRAPES AND DESKA AND ALL OF THE CUTS ARE SMOOTH AS CAN BE; BUT ROMANTICA IS ONE OF THE MOST SOULFUL AND EMOTIONAL INSTRUMENTAL BALLADS EVER PLAYED! THANKS MARION FOR ANOTHER HEART-FELT EXPERIENCE!

I wondered how Marion was going to top "In Deep", well he did it!This is a beautiful CD! No "fluff" here. I highly recommend it!! This is the best CD I've purchased so far in 2004. Marion is performing on Catalina Island this year, I plan on being there. That is going to be a "show"!!

I have been a Marion Meadow's fan for years, and I have purchased many previous released CD's, but this Players Club, Marion out did his self on this one. Practically every song on this disc is one of my favorites. I have listened to the disc so much until I might have to purchase a new one just because of all the wear and tear. If you are a true smooth jazz lover and you love the soprano sax, I think you will enjoy this one!

He never fails to deliver.......,
By A Customer
This review is from: Players Club (Audio CD)
I heard Marion Meadows for the first time roughly four years ago. I went back and purchased earlier works, and haven't missed a CD since. Again, he hit the nail on the head. This entire CD is relaxing and inviting. My favorite cut is #4, The First Time.He never fails to deliver. He gives of himself through his music, and if you can't feel it, then you're missing something. I would suggest that you buy this CD, and devote time to actually listening to it, and not be disturbed by anything else. There's my two cents :-)

Not only is this musician good-looking, he can blow that horn. The cover is very applealing. I enjoyed the entire CD. The song, "Wishing on a Star", you can actually sing along with it, if you know the words, Noche Privada is a nice upbeat tune, Diggable is really diggable, and After 6 sounds like something really after six. The entire CD is upbeat and a great toe tapper, listening, and just a groove maker. I recommend this very, very highly.
once again satisfied
