4.0 out of 5 stars Rick Day is my god..., October 18, 2009
This review is from: Players (Hardcover)
If you like hot athletes in very little clothing- and really, who doesn't?- PLAYERS will make you very happy. This new photo book from New York based photographer Rick Day features incredibly hot, muscled, sporty men showing off the bodies they've built through years of playing football, soccer, wrestling, and other sports we love to fantasize about.

Or at least models who we'd like to believe play those games.

If you pay attention to high-end clothing ads, the International Male catalog, or have an obsession with hot male models, you'll definitely recognize a few guys in this book. Of course given the lack of clothing, you might not be looking at their faces.

PLAYERS features models in sport gear... who seem not to care much for wearing it. And also like to embrace their exhibitionist side. And we're fine with that. The book is gorgeous- even by Bruno Gmunder standards, which are already incredibly high. Of course the colors and clarity are brilliant, and it's printed on high quality paper, but it goes even further. As coffee table books go, it has one of the best layouts I've seen in years.

If you're even a bit on the prudish side, I'd advise you to stay away from this book; it's got some full-on nudity, in a big way. (And I mean a big way.) It's artfully shot, the production value is incredible, and I wouldn't call it porn, but it's definitely a bit more "exciting" (or perhaps "excited" is the better word) than classic Herb Ritts type shots.

5.0 out of 5 stars STUNNING!, August 5, 2009

This review is from: Players (Hardcover)
This book is simply STUNNING. Mr. Day's talent is beyond definition...He is not only able to find models (who are works of art in and of themselves), but is a master at creating and an intense atmosphere of sex, power, strength, and vulnerability. The book, gets deeper, more meaningful, and challenging each time you look at. It is a great addition for any collection!

This review is from: Players (Hardcover)
Yeah , yeah the men are hot , have hard ons and all that , but the reason why I love this book is first of all is a BIG BOOK , very sexual , but never vulgar , the lighting in each photography is excellent , it gives you that artistic side that you expect. So anyways you have to own this book if you are gay , straight man that likes the men body or if you are a woman that loves good lighting (jk).

5.0 out of 5 stars It's All In The Game!, May 23, 2011
By
This review is from: Players (Hardcover)
Rick Day is a practiced and highly visible photographer and his specialty seems to be describing the heat of the athletic games he captures so well on film and in his multiple monographs. This big book is not an exception.

Whether day has found true athletes or use models to pose as athletes is a moot point: none of these well muscled men could have come by these physiques without rigorous athletic workouts! But here Day places them in (and out of!) uniforms of ice skaters, football players, hockey players, gymnasts, swimmers - name a sport and there is an example here The emphasis is on the healthy, fit male, either preparing for are relaxing after a game. The poses he is able to arrange with his models are well designed and place the men on pedestals for the reader to admire. As one admirer phrased it 'Beautiful male athletes, sensational style and enough skin to sate even the most voracious appetite all add up to the perfect blend of a glossy fashion ad and the musky roughness of vintage macho stance.' Another collector's item for fans of male photography - both male and female! Grady Harp, May 11

5.0 out of 5 stars SO SKILFULL; SO SENSITIVE. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS BOOK!, January 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Players (Hardcover)
PLAYERS by Rick Day is the "pop-eyed" quintesential powerhouse of a book of the male body: powerful, rigid, relaxed, intense, exciting powder off the page right in front of you. Not only artistically - in the natural male layer of steam off these bodies and the selection of whatever piece of cloth may be covering or not, every pulse on their skin - they vibrate. The locations also pulse with their heat. These men are gorgeous; they are beautiful; they need to be seen. This is a work of genius and I have looked at dozens of these books, which offer themselves to be what this volume delivers. Others are no where near this one and I would put up any of those currently on the market against this piece of sheer beauty. They all fail and this one simply does not falter in any fashion. This sets the standard for those already published and all those being considered. This is the one that all others will have to be sized against. Judging so far, no winners in sight. Too many efforts; too little success. This is the only one to put your money into; all others, go to the local library, if they have the balls. The only possible exception: "Outback Currawong Creek" by Paul Freeman. Earlier books by these two guys are excellent, but these two are the pinnacle at the peak ..... To get any better, take them to the closest bedroom and offer a lot of money. Just give it to them. They are hot. You want men without apology; you got it here!
