Are you familiar with the Disney Channel's adorable Rolie Polie Olie, who lives with his family in a world of animated objects? The computer renditions of the pleasant little family will immediately draw in young Rolie Polie fans, but design problems are likely to interfere with the experience. Here's the story. Spot, Olie's dog, has made a big mess in the automated household by knocking down objects. To restore order and ultimately give messy Spot a bath, children help by pushing furniture back into place and by playing clunky, but entertaining logic games. Kids catch runaway crayons by matching colors, or slide shapes onto a blueprint to make pictures of rocketships, toys and treehouses. They make musical recordings using Rolie Polie background music and canister accompaniments, and search for bathroom objects that have fallen into the bath water. The narration, graphics, theme and concepts presented are all strong, but the program has some significant weaknesses, including lack of responsiveness to children's clicks and limited novelty. Toddler and preschooler testers lost interest due to long transitions, too much instruction and reinforcement overkill. The same pieces of furniture are knocked down with each play, and the activities never change. While three of the activities are fairly well-designed, the bath water game makes it too awkward for children to zap the target objects. I bought this CD ROM for my 3 year-old daughter, who is just crazy about the Rolie Polie Olie TV show. She is really enjoying the game! There are lots of cute clickable items in the rooms, and the games are fun, too - not your usual run-of-the-mill CD games. Her favorite is the one where you catch crayons. I find the games are intuitive enough that she can play them by herself, without having to call for help every five minutes. I was really impressed with this product!

Bought this game shortly after it was released and my kids (2 and 4) have been delighted by Olie, Spot, Zowie and Pappy ever since they started playing it. Clickable objects scattered throughout the Polie home play sounds and animate when the kids click on them and the games are lightly educational and thoroughly enjoyable. (I've even been caught looking for Pappy's teeth in Tubby!!)

After first loading and playing this awhile, the images got all fuzzy.
This problem was then passed on to anything my child tried to do on her computer - all games, even the opening screen.
The problem did not go away until I uninstalled Rolie.
My daughter loves the show but found the play value very disappointing.
The computer has a 333MHz Pentium, Windows 98 Plus, 128Mb ram, 1Gb available on hard drive, and an 8Mb graphics accelerator card - so well exceeds the system requirements called for by this game.
