This is a stand-out CD from the ever-consistent Peter White. He's gone for the rich, layered smooth jazz interpretations of such classics as Sunny (my favorite), The Look of Love, Lovely Day and For The Love of You. Production qualities are immaculate and his guitar work oozes class in the lush evocative mix. Every track is a winner and showcases the mastery of White's playing. When I'm playing favorites this CD is an obvious choice!

It's hard for me to give a Peter White cd 3 stars- he is my favorite jazz artist, and I have almost all his cd's- but that is what I'm doing. The guitar playing is flawless, and many songs on the cd deserve 5 stars, but I don't think the vocals on "Deja Vu" and a few other songs add anything to the songs- they detract from Peter's fabulous guitar playing. The song "Mister Magic" doesn't seem to belong on this cd, I personally can't stand this hyper, crazy song.
I listen to jazz to relax. I have never liked the vocals on these cd's. I wish they'd keep them purely instrumental. I much preferred Peter's candlelight vol. 2 cd of greatest hits. On the plus side, "What does it take to win your love" and "Sunny" are standouts.

Peter used to write his own songs, but clearly all the music listed in this album are the roots for his inspirations.
The smooth sounds from this CD is creating an energic but calm ambience wherever you are.

Peter White is one of the best smooth guitar playing artist around. You can feel his sensual strokes on every string he strikes. Every one of his cd's gets progressively better. Although his album "Glow" is my favorite, this one will not be caught in the back seat of my ride. Cuts like Mister Magic, Crazy Love and What Does it Takes to Win your Love makes the album worth having alone. If you like smooth jazz guitar, check-out this piece of ear-candy and enjoy the flavor. You will not be disappointed....

This is taking jazz to another level,
This review is from: Playin' Favorites (Audio CD)
I must confess listening to this CD when I bought it in August almost brought tears to my eyes. Peter is simply a genuis! DJ for radio QFM in Zambia, Sam Sakala asked me to buy him a copy. I bought it but since it was meant as a gift I did not want to unwrap it. I kept it in my car for three days without playing it (it wasn't easy though) and then gave it to my cousin Gladstone who was travelling to Zambia. A month later I bought my copy and I must admit captain fingers has just elevated smooth jazz to another level! Peter, thanks for such a wonderful CD and to me it will always be a mystery just how on earth a human being can play the guitar so sweetly! I own every CD by PW but this one just puts the icing on the cake so for jazz fans out there you are missing something if you have not added it to your collection. I cannot wait for PW's next release!

This is my favorite Peter White CD. Excellent tunes. If you're planning a romantic evening, this is a CD to have playing in the background.

"Playin Favorites" is simply amazing. Peter White always produces quality work. But this time, he took "quality" to a higher level. There is not a bad track on this cd. This cd is enjoyable from beginning to end. True jazz fans can't go wrong with this cd. "Old school" fans will also love this cd. This is definately a "must have cd". To Peter and the other artist featured on this cd, "Great job"

Peter White's guitar playing always takes new levels, and every single track stands out on this new cd! It's really great to hear the guitar stand out in the mix. All of the songs represent timeless favorites of the past. I really love how this cd has a theme to it.
My favorite track is "Deja Vu." It's so hard to pick favorites, on this cd because it flows so well. As a smooth jazz fan, I really appreciate the effort that Peter White did on this cd, but if you're a fan of nice songs from the 60's, 70's, and 80's, and want to hear some great instrumentation, then please do yourself a favor and purchase this cd! You won't regret it! Nick Kalenze
