Magic !!,

This remains Gregg's best effort ever. He is not tied down by the never-ending Dickey Betts solos -- and he gets to play with some outstanding musicians. Willie Weeks continues to move in and out of all 'kinds' of music; and playing bass like no one else. I wore this "record" out 20 years ago -- and the CD just brings it on home. Buy it

This is one heck of a treat served up here by Gregg Allman. I discovered the album while in the army in Germany. And thats 24 years ago. It is one of those albums I keep getting back to. I had to buy the vinyl version four times ! (that's how much I played it)The CD is always at hand. One ignored jewel on it for me, has always been the instrumental Matthews Arrival. One of my all-time favorite instrumentals, and in my top three with The Brecker Brothers' "Sneakin' up Behind You" and the Crusaders' "Put it where you want it". (And don't think I'm in to jazz because I am definetely NOT !) I used Matthews Arrival for years on the readio as the tune to my show and over the years people kept calling in to ask who that brilliant song was from. Well .. don't take it from me ! All in all this is one of those pearls that never wears out. Even if you do not particularly like the Allman Brothers Band as such (which I do) this still is a very enjoyable long term investment. I can only come up with one other album that grew on my like this one did, and that's Daniel Lanois' "Acadie" Anyway.. don't miss out on this one.. Enjoy !! |
