4.0 out of 5 stars Cheerful and uplifting pop music, November 6, 2007

If you like fresh, interesting and original indie pop then you might enjoy this album. There are some truly effervescent moments where the songs can lift the listener up to a slightly higher plane; the mezzanine, where rabbits and honeyeaters nibble treats from your open hand and where the sun always shines but never burns your face. The quality of the songs is consistent, with a couple of standout tunes that lodge themselves in your memory -'Sailor Girl' and the aptly titled 'Spell Happiness' are the two that spring to mind. Dean Manning (remember Leonardo's Bride?) proves his worth as a singer on a few of these songs. He's got a nice voice that works in rather neatly with the band, who sound fresh and on their game. I found it & it brought me cheer. Thus I'm led to fully concur with Amazon's review on this one.

I like Holidays on Ice. Good beats, sweet melodies, but so hard to get. I was going to see if I could buy their album at B&N, Best Buy, f.y.e., or even target, no go. The only easy way is amazon. The samples that I heard on their website was stuck in my head for a week They have unique voices and unique styles.

The best are from the things that are hard to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, December 27, 2005

I initially picked this CD up at a Holidays On Ice gig in Sydney, and yes I admit the reason I went to the show was because of Angie.

That said, I was --and am-- so not disappointed with this release. Dean does provide lead vocals on several tracks, however Angie features prominently on the album and provides backing vocals on a few tracks when she isn't leading. Their voices are a perfect marriage and never is it more evident than during a live performance - if you have a chance go see them live, it's a guaranteed fun time and the energy is crackly and vibrant.

The songs are ... it's like ice cream on a hot summer day. It's hard to choose a favourite but songs like Get Up And Fall Down and Good Day are probably high up there. The first is soft and sweet and tinkly, the second is just a really, really great upbeat song that makes you want to grin and throw down some air guitar moves (or is that just me and my friends?).

It's a beautiful album and I highly recommend it to any fans of good music. It has been on high rotation in my itunes now for a good four months solid.

Go on, buy it :)
