Book Description

April 1, 2009
Essence® bestselling author Kiki Swinson keeps it coming with a gritty, new drama about one cunning sistah playing a very dangerous game with the law.

Playing dirty is a skill that Yoshi Lomax has perfected. By bribing cops and officials, sleeping with her boss, and convincing her friend in the DEA to make evidence disappear, Yoshi has become a top criminal defense attorney. And she has the multi-million dollar Miami pad and Aston Martin to prove it. But when she takes the case of badass Haitian mob boss Sheldon Chisholm, her usual way of doing business--by any means necessary--doesn’t work. Someone has gotten to the people on her payroll and her funds are beginning to dwindle. Now she has no choice but to defend a dangerous murderer with nothing but her brains and the law. And while an unknown enemy keeps trying to sabotage her, Sheldon makes it very clear what’s at stake. Either Yoshi wins the case. . .or loses her life.

More About the Author

Born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia, Kiki Swinson discovered her flair for writing twelve years ago after completing her first novel entitled "Mad Shambles," while serving a five year sentence at a federal prison for "being the wifey" of a known drug dealer. This charge is known as "knowing of and/or about a criminal-enterprise."

After being released in December 1996, she did a little research and learned about the success of authors such as Bebe Moore Campbell, Terry McMillan and Sheneska Jackson. She said, "DangÂ… these women got it going on. And if they did it, so can I!"

Ms. Swinson, later went on to self-publish "Mad Shambles." Her passion for writing didn't stop there. Writing feverishly into the wee hours of the night, she completed her second novel, Wifey, which was picked up and published by Melodrama Publishing. After the success of Wifey, there was an overwhelming demand for her to write a sequel. Her fans wanted more so Ms. Swinson decided to answer all unanswered questions. The result is a creative, gritty work of fiction entitled, "I'm Still Wifey."

3.0 out of 5 stars She really was Playing dirty, April 22, 2009
This review is from: Playing Dirty (Paperback)
Yoshi Lomax had it all:A career as a lawyer, good looks, the crib and car and the wardrobe to go with it and her own money. On the flip side,Yoshi bribed people and represented wealthy clients but still that wasn't enough.Yoshi's character was money hungry and selfish. It was never enough for her.She was so full of herself and her greed is what got her into all the stuff she was in.Now I found this book to be an okay read.It had a slow start and I will admit after I got passed the slow parts it picked up but what killed it for me was the ending.I didnt like how it played out even though there will be a sequel.I will read the sequel to see what Yoshi is up to.The book could have ended sooner rather than later.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sequel for what? 2.5 stars, August 16, 2009
This review is from: Playing Dirty (Paperback)
I ordered Playing Dirty from Black Expressions and was soooooo disappointed when I read it. Ms. Swinson's skills seem to be on the downslide. For Yoshi to be so successful, she was shallow and unintelligent. She seemed to be so saavy in the courtroom, but when it came to everything else she was naive. From her cocaine addiction to being a court officer caught with drugs in her car. This book had no real substance or plot. It definitely was not good enough for a sequel. It was already short so this author could have just put the two books together to tell one mediocre story. The first two wifey's seem to be all that this writer could produce well because all of her books after that have been horrible. It's not worth the fifteen bucks. Choose something else and leave this one on the shelves.

1.0 out of 5 stars I really tried, April 5, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Playing Dirty (Paperback)
I pre-ordered this book and was very disappointed. This was my first full length book by this author. I bought this book on the strength of her short story in Sleeping with the Enemy. I have picked this book up several times and just can not get into it. I can't get past the second chapter. I am a avid reader and can read several books in a weeks span but this book is like getting a deaf person to hear...This is my opinion you might like it. I would borrow it instead of buying it.
