She really was Playing dirty,
By nicole098 "Avid Reader" (Greensboro,NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Playing Dirty (Paperback)
Yoshi Lomax had it all:A career as a lawyer, good looks, the crib and car and the wardrobe to go with it and her own money. On the flip side,Yoshi bribed people and represented wealthy clients but still that wasn't enough.Yoshi's character was money hungry and selfish. It was never enough for her.She was so full of herself and her greed is what got her into all the stuff she was in.Now I found this book to be an okay read.It had a slow start and I will admit after I got passed the slow parts it picked up but what killed it for me was the ending.I didnt like how it played out even though there will be a sequel.I will read the sequel to see what Yoshi is up to.The book could have ended sooner rather than later.

Sequel for what? 2.5 stars,

I ordered Playing Dirty from Black Expressions and was soooooo disappointed when I read it. Ms. Swinson's skills seem to be on the downslide. For Yoshi to be so successful, she was shallow and unintelligent. She seemed to be so saavy in the courtroom, but when it came to everything else she was naive. From her cocaine addiction to being a court officer caught with drugs in her car. This book had no real substance or plot. It definitely was not good enough for a sequel. It was already short so this author could have just put the two books together to tell one mediocre story. The first two wifey's seem to be all that this writer could produce well because all of her books after that have been horrible. It's not worth the fifteen bucks. Choose something else and leave this one on the shelves.

I pre-ordered this book and was very disappointed. This was my first full length book by this author. I bought this book on the strength of her short story in Sleeping with the Enemy. I have picked this book up several times and just can not get into it. I can't get past the second chapter. I am a avid reader and can read several books in a weeks span but this book is like getting a deaf person to hear...This is my opinion you might like it. I would borrow it instead of buying it.

A beautiful nightmare for a good girl gone bad. You instantly fall in love with the main charecter and easily follow her journey in this mini-series of books.

I really enjoy this book. It was a great read. All the books I read so far by Ms. Swinson are great. In my reviews I try not to write to much because of the fear of giving the story away.

By Any Means Necessary,

In PLAYING DIRTY, Yoshi Lomax has mastered the art of manipulation by bribing cops and officials, sleeping with her boss and convincing her best friend, who happens to be a DEA agent to often make evidence disappear. When she takes on the case of Sheldon Chisholm her usual way of doing business, doesn't work. At the hands of an unknown enemy, her life as she knows it comes tumbling down.
PLAYING DIRTY was an interesting read for me. It took me some time to actually get into it. It didn't start off as the page turner I thought it would. Overall it was an okay read. I thought there was an abundance of drama that Yoshi found herself in, some of it believable ~ some of it not. Some things just didn't make sense to me, for instance I didn't understand why the attorney Eric that worked with her, threw her so much shade if he was there under false pretenses. I know that there was a sequel to follow, but I would have liked to see the book end with a cliff hanger. Also, there were a lot of loose ends that were not tied up by the end of the book as I felt they should have been.

Being Bougie and Low Down Can Cost You...,
By Dawn Chambray (Michigan, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Playing Dirty (Paperback)
It can cost you friends, contacts and your life if you're not careful. This book shows how the stuck up Yoshi puts the lives of everyone around her including herself in danger. By not working hard but scheming her way to the top. For what some money and status? High profile players in this game are getting caught and paying the price for dealing with this broad. Don't ever risk your life for money or status. It's not worth it. Now what does Yoshi get for it...set up and being on the run.

Wow Yoshi really had it going on!! I hate the way she lived and handled her business, but it goes to show that it's hard being a Black woman in the corporate world. She was good at what she did, good read!!
