Book Description

July 1, 1998
'Playing with Fire' extends the fast-growing field of conflict resolution to work with young adults. Drawing from successful programs in the US, Canada and the UK, it presents a training program that helps young adults explore situations of conflict and interpersonal violence while learning and practicing skills and strategies for turning destructive conflicts into constructive dialogs. It is a practical, ready-to-use guide for teachers, counsellors, group leaders, and others.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Teens and young adults receive training on handling violence and conflict, and can use these linked exercises, which have been field-tested with multicultural groups of students and young offenders, to resolve their own life problems. Teachers, youth workers, and others involved with teens will find this as important as will the teen readers themselves. -- Midwest Book Review --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This review is from: Playing With Fire: Creative Conflict Resolution for Young Adults (Paperback)
I use this book more than any others when it comes to finding conflict resolution activities for young adults. The authors use the metaphor of fire growing from a spark to begin thinking about how conflicts begin, and how they can be used to fuel the creative process, rather than turning into fights. Lots of great ideas for games and circle activities, and a strong emphasis on social justice, multi-cultural appreciation (as opposed to mere tolerance) and community action. The activities will help anyone who works with teens and young adults develop a strong, peer-led conflict resolution program.
