Not for the absolute beginner (like me). Much more helpful once I got the accompanying tape.

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful By Dulcimer Player on July 14, 2007
Format: Paperback
This is not a beginners books this is for intermediate-to-advanced players. The point of this book is to show readers ornamentation in Irish music. It is a well thought guide but it is aim is to help people who can play the basics but want to improve there playing and knowledge of the music. The one down side to this book is that the CD that comes with it does not have all the music in the book.

Format: Paperback
I've had this book for a while, but have only more recently been playing in it. This is the ONLY instruction book and CD that I've found so far which really explains ornamentation in both the print and on the CD. FANTASTIC HELP!

Thank you Karen Ashbrook from those of us who do not have any actual hammered dulcimer teachers in our area. I play the piano and of course know how to work ornamentation into piano music, but it's not the same on the hammered dulcimer. This book and CD really helped me out.
