5.0 out of 5 stars A charming love story to warm the heart, December 1, 2003
By
This review is from: Playing by Heart: A Story of Love (Paperback)
In this delightful novella by award-winning author Deborah Raney, two lonely people come to care for each other through the exchange of handwritten notes, without ever meeting face to face. However, each one's imagined perception of the other is shattered when they finally do meet... will they be able to hold onto the fragile beginnings of deep friendship and let a budding romance take it's course, or will they let memories of the past and misconceptions kill the relationship before it even begins to bloom? A heart warming read for those who love short romances. ~~Ellie Schroder, owner of The Christian Fiction Site

5.0 out of 5 stars ENCHANTING READ, September 17, 2004
This review is from: Playing by Heart: A Story of Love (Paperback)
With a deadline looming and her house teeming with repairmen, Novelist Maddie Hauser retreats to a local Bed & Breakfast run by a gentlemen she never sees. A friendship is developed through the notes they exchange daily. She begins to cherish the notes and looks forward to their meeting.

When they finally meet, neither can hide their shock when they discover that the person penning the notes was not who the other envisioned!

In this delightful and humorous tale of mistaken identify, taking risks, and falling in love you'll find characters who stay in your heart long after the last page. This is another pearl in Deb Raney's string of heartwarming stories.

This short read is a fun, lighthearted story which will have you feeling along with the characters and their dilemmas. You will have to smile throughout the book, and will feel satisfied at the end. Deborah Raney does an excellent job with keeping consistency in her characters, and story line. I'd recommend it for an afternoon curled up on the couch.

Deborah Raney has created a lovely story of mistaken identity, healing of broken hearts, kindness of neighbors, and the strength of Love in lives. The characters, Madeline, Adam and Ginny grow on the reader's heart like ivy on trellises. If you want to read a book that stirs the heart and leaves you smiling, this treasured gem is the one!

Want to curl up with a feel-good book? Then this is for you. It's touching and heartwarming and funny, too. Mistaken identities and near misses abound, but they never felt contrived. Ms. Raney is a wonderful author, and this small book continues her string of books that are on my keeper shelf.

Once again Deb has written a masterpiece. I have read and enjoyed all of her books, but this one I couldn't put down until it was finished. Playing By Heart is a fun, lighthearted romance. So grab a cup of cocoa and escape "reality" for a couple of hours and enjoy!

Playing By Heart has all the qualities of a long Deborah Raney novel--personal conflict, intrique, a sense of fun, and a very satisfying wrap up--and yet I was able to delve into the story and enjoy it even when I didn't have much time to spare . . . and when I couldn't bring myself to put the book down! Another great work by Deb Raney. I highly recommend it.
