Book Description

Journalist Samantha Jameson always wanted to be one of the boys, but Ryan Terell won’t let her join the club. Fresh from the battlegrounds of Iraq, reporting on a bunch of overgrown boys playing pro football is just the change of scenery she needs. If trying to be taken seriously in the world of sports writing wasn’t hard enough, Ryan, her college crush, is only making it harder. As a tight-end for the team she’s covering, he is strictly off limits.
Ryan Terell is a playmaker on and off the field, but when Samantha uncovers his moves, he throws out the playbook. Just as he claims his sweetest victory, Samantha’s investigation into a steroid scandal involving his team forces him to call a time-out to their off the record trysts. But then a life threatening injury on the field will force them both to decide just how far they’ll go to win the game.
Winner of the NECRWA First Kiss Contest.

Book Junkie: In Liz Matis' latest from Little Hondo Press, Playing For Keeps you will get a wildly sexy romance with depth and laughs.

A really fun read, the personalities of each of the main characters really shine bright in this romance making you fall in love with them, flaws and all. After all I think that is what makes a story so great, is seeing that your beloved characters seem so real and human as you do.

With a strong supporting cast and a promised sequel this is a warm hearting and sexy romance that will surely heat up your cold winter nights.

A page turner, bring on the sequel.  - Book Junkie

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Contemporary Romance November 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the second book I've read from Matis, and she does not disappoint. A hunky football star has the hots for a sports reporter who refuses to get involved due to her career. The characters have great chemistry, the sex scenes are fantastic, and there are some issues that deepen the book along the way, like a steroids plot and PTSD. I was cheering for this couple the whole way and the ending was satisfying. I also loved the secondary plot with the hero and heroine's best friends, and that story will be coming in 2012. If you're looking for a great contemporary romance that's funny and has heart, definitely buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this story - December 14, 2011
By Jen
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm was a cheerleader when I was 8 - my brother played football and my dad was the coach for a few years.
We watched it on TV every Sunday and Monday, And then I married a man who hates football *is that possible??*

Reading this story brought back a lot of fun memories from when I was a child. I love the games and the action. Although this story didn't have a lot
To do with football, being familiar with the "Hot" players out on the field, I could visualize just how big and rowdie the players were in this book.

I am in Love with Ryan and Jake - In this story, we got not only one great story about Ryan and Samantha, but we got TWO fun stories
About Jake and Hanna as well! Awesome!

The story starts off with Samantha jumping back into Sports. She's a writer for the paper, and she's good at what she does. Naturally, since her father
Was a sports news writer before he retired, she grew up knowing about the game.
Ryan is the star of the NY Cougars football team. He's also a close friend of Samantha's family. He went to High school with her brother. And her father was the
One that called the scouts out to watch Ryan play football and got his career on the move. He went to Notre Dame with Samantha. And even though they both
Had feelings for each other, Samantha was forced to keep her distance because of her writing. Being a sports writer and sleeping with the captain of the football team
Would only cause gossip and chaos to her career. So they kept their distance.

After 10 years, while Samantha was writing news for a paper, she went to Iraq to get a story about the troups. She was involved in a car bombing and went missing for 3 days.
She didn't want to talk about it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Light, fluffy, and enjoyable read but nothing outstanding November 18, 2011
By MsBaba4
Format:Kindle Edition
"Football is an honest game. It's true to life. It's a game about sharing. Football is a team game. So is life."
- by Joe Namath (former American football quarterback) -

3.5 stars.

After an assignment gone awry in Iraq, journalist Samantha Jameson needs a change of scenery. And writing columns about a bunch of testosterone-laden football players seems to be a good choice. Samantha wants to be taken seriously in the world of sports writing but star player Ryan Terell, her college crush, is no help at all. He's hitting on her, and Samantha knows that Ryan is definitely off-limits.

Besides the main story about Sam and Ryan you'll get to know the secondary characters Hannah and Jake. Hannah is Samantha's friend and roommate and Jake is Ryan's best friend and fellow teammate. Going For It - Hannah and Jake's story - will be released coming April 2012. I really liked Jake. A lot. However Hannah seemed a bit shallow when it came to men. Usually she dumps her lovers after a few hours/days until Jake, that is. Despite her flaw Hannah is funny, and I really enjoyed the banter between Samantha and Hannah.

Overall I did like Playing For Keeps. The dialogs are witty and the characters are likeable. The sex scenes are well written and the main protagonists generated quite some heat. Ryan is really scrumptious. He's got a charming personality, a great body and is handsome. Something was lacking though. Samantha suffers from PTSD, and this aspect could have been explored much more. I'd have loved to get more information about her issues. Her problems couldn't quite accomplish to touch my heart. It felt too closed-off, and the author just skimmed the topic but didn't have the ability to come up with an in-depth analysis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really sweet April 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ryand and Sam are really meant to be together. From the time when they had childhood crushes that stretched into adulthood love, they were meant to be together. They each had to work that through their heads to get there. Loved the secondary characters of Hannah and Jake and thought Sam's protective family were so cute as well..The story is sweet and romantic and sexy scenes made it all work for me. Looking forward to the next book....Jake and Hannah will make for some fun reading i'm sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Play on both ends... May 21, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had this book on my wish list for forever... It went on sale and I missed it then went on sale again.. I grabbed it. I'm mad I waited so long... I loved the main characters! Samantha and Ryan (main couple) then their sidekicks.. Hannah and Jake.. Samantha is a woman of today- professional, works hard in a mostly male profession but makes her way, feisty and not an angel but not crazy either.. She had a fantasy... Ryan.. And for 10 years she fought it and ran from him but he had a fantasy too- Samantha.. Now being back from Iraq and a horrible near death experience out there they both get that second chance to make that fantasy come true.. Not giving any spoilers away- I liked the passion, the way things happened naturally with them as well as Hannah and Jake.. Why this is 4 instead of 5 stars- something misses with the flow or too much is left not addressed. For example the feeling of Ryan not being apart of a family because he was raised in the foster care system when clearly Samantha's family loved him as family... He felt disconnected in that sense and they should have had the opportunity to clear the air with that one. I think he needed that. The case about the drugs... What happened? I would've liked to see how that investigation ended.. I'm definitely looking forward to Jake and Hannah's story.. Good read, great story line..
