Book Description

#1 Bestselling Series Romance

The harder they play . . . the harder they fall.

After publicly self-destructing over a heartbreak a year ago, bestselling romance writer Piper James is now making nice with her publisher by agreeing to teach Hollywood's favorite action star how to act like he's in love. Only playboy Mick Blackwell has no clue what love looks like.

When a seductive heat ignites between Piper and Mick, she jumps at the chance for a bit of fun between the sheets, but with two stipulations: she's kept out of the public eye and things end when she returns to New York. Only Mick keeps changing the rules on her. Tempted by America's favorite bad boy, Piper is wondering how far she's willing to bend...

Editorial Reviews

Review

Robin's latest is a delectable addition to Entangled's best-selling Brazen line.I adored the humor -- Mick and Piper share some slick and charming dialogue -- as well as the freshness of Mick's biracial background and how the author does not allow that detail to dominate the story. And have I mentioned Robin Covington knows her way around a sex scene? Have a cold drink at hand when you check out Playing the Part, 'cause it's a scorcher. - Happy Ever After, USAToday

"PLAYING THE PART blew me away with it's great characters, fast pace, and enough heat to warrant more than a few cold showers. Mick and Piper complement each other perfectly and make the reader root for them from Page 1. Robin's writing is tight and engaging and she nailed her characters. Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2013 and a perfect representation of the Entangled Brazen line. I highly recommend it." - NYT and USAToday Bestselling Author, Gina L. Maxwell

PLAYING THE PART by Robin Covington is a sleek, sexy tale of consuming passion and enduring love. Mick is the hero of every woman's fantasies, and the heat between Mick and Piper burns up the pages! Robin Covington delivers sizzling romance that leaves me begging for more!"--Jo Davis, National bestselling author of SWORN TO PROTECT

"Couldn't put this book down. Strong-willed heroine. To-die-for hero. Sexual chemistry that explodes off the page. Scorchingly good fun." USA Today Bestselling Author, Nicola Marsh

"There's no slow build-up here, with plenty of heat right out of the gate." RT Book Reviews ~ 4 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy! June 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the third book I have read by Ms. Covington , and I have to say, it is a heated page turner! By the time I had finished I had so many pages highlighted, I was not sure I could write a review without spoilers.....here is my attempt.

Piper James is a best selling author of romance novels, recovering from a very bad, very public break up. Her ex fiancé was a popular actor, caught in a liaison with her best friend. Her career suffered after all the bad publicity generated by her well documented anger and pain . She is now trying to get her career back, by helping another actor understand the role he is to play in one of her novels brought to the screen. "All she had to do to salvage her career was teach the leading man, Mick Blackwell, the sexiest playboy in Hollywood, how to act like he was in love."

Mick Blackwell is the star of several action adventure movies, trying to make his mark in a more dramatic role. He lives with his best friend Lincoln St. John known to all his fans as a "rock god." Mick had a difficult childhood growing up in the shadow of his Oscar winning actor father. "Since I was seven I've spent more time pretending to be other people than I’ve been myself. My life isn’t exactly normal.” My first reaction to Mick was "slick." He was all charm and seduction. The cameras were his friend. Piper enjoyed his charm and seduction, but she had rules. Good sex, no sleepovers.

We learn a lot about our hero and heroine. They each have friends and staff they believe in. Some not worthy of their trust. Ms. Covington shows us in small ways Mick's true self. He's caring, and loyal, and not really the thoughtless playboy he shows to the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy Confident and not at all set in stone! June 21, 2013

I had begun reading this book with a bit of apprehension, it has quite the slow beginning as we learn who Piper is from her own perspective. But we soon meet Chris (Her manager and best gay-friend) and Mick Blackwell(Hollywood Action Star and Heart-breaker Extraordinaire). Mick is a very appealing guy (as most model action stars tend to be) and Piper decides that a little casual sex would be no big deal. However, to her surprise, Mick who, by his own accord "I don't play by the rules, I play to win." keeps deciding that their casual agreement is not enough for him, a little at a time. Piper and Mick have many bumps in the road and it was refreshing that the two main characters did not hit it off instantly, see stars or hearts or whatever, and live happily ever after... They really had to work for it in this book! From paparazzi mishaps, and broken promises, there were true honest blood sweat and tears put into this match. A few times I found myself wishing I could reach in and strangle Mick for his ignorant giving-ins and failures to say the right thing... But in the end, he made right by me, so I was a happy bookworm! This was a great roller coaster ride after I got past the first chapter!! I recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of contemporary romance and loves to watch the characters have to work for their keep!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! June 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Immediately upon finishing this story, I was overwhelmed with a giant smile and an immense need to immediately write my review. This story was completely adorable with enough steam to add spice. Piper and Mick are great characters that are easy to love. Mick can be completely arrogant, but has his own hidden sweet side. Piper is feisty, but scorned from her past. I actually read this book while I had the flu, and I have to admit, I tried reading several books while I was sick, but this was the only one that could keep my attention! Perhaps I just have a strong affinity towards secret budding romances. I swear, there were multiple times that I swooned.

One thing that I really liked was the fact that Mick is multiracial. It's not a common occurrence (at least in my experience) to have a mixed race relationship. I felt like this was a very bold move that deserves some praise! The added issues that Mick had due to his race while he was starting his career really added extra depth into his character. Personally, I feel it's sad that this stood out for me, because it should be more common, but... I'd rather not start a rant. ;)

The added mystery of the story really brought it all together. Although I felt it was a bit obvious who the culprit was, the extra drama made this story exceptional. The wonderful authors at Entangled Publishing have done it again! Yet another amazing book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick sexy read for the beach June 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Review posted at Red Hot Books.

Hollywood player Mick Blackwell, known mostly for his action movies, wants to break in to more serious dramatic roles. He pursues and lands the leading man part in a film adaptation of a romantic book by Piper James, but he is having trouble connecting with the character because he himself has never been in a real relationship.

After a recent messy public breakup which not only got her splashed all over the tabloids but also caused her to miss a deadline, Piper James is forced to come out of semi-seclusion by her publisher to help Mick tap into his inner love god.

From the moment they meet on the set, sparks fly between Mick and Piper. Mick immediately decides he wants her and makes it known, and Piper decides to use Mick to exorcise the insecurities left from her previous failed relationship. They quickly agree to a quiet affair while they are working together on the film with the understanding that romantic feelings don't enter into the equation.

I really enjoyed the chemistry Piper and Mick had on the page. Piper was teasing and playful with a cocky stud like Mick. I particularly appreciated that Piper was able to own her own sexuality and be forward in their relationship. There was no beating around the bush in this book. Each person stated what they wanted and then did what was mutually agreeable - how authentic!

Of course, as the affair progresses, Piper and Mick find that they enjoy each other out of bed as well as in, and a friendship develops. Mick convinces Piper that they should extend their affair after filming is over and against her better judgment, she agrees.
