5.0 out of 5 stars Well told story of community, service and heroism
The history of Rocky Mountain Rescue and the accounts of some of their modern day work are brought to life by the author, Mark Scott-Nash. Dismissing the idea that an all-volunteer organization is not 'professional' and delving into the triumphs and tragedies inherent in their work, Scott-Nash makes the events and emotions very easy to understand, even for us...

3.0 out of 5 stars Playing For Real review.
The rescue stories were interesting and it sounds like the Rocky Nountain Rescue group certainly deserves all the accolades and credit that Scott-Nash gives it. However, Scott-Nash's writing is not particularly engaging and is a little sophmoric.

Dismissing the idea that an all-volunteer organization is not 'professional' and delving into the triumphs and tragedies inherent in their work, Scott-Nash makes the events and emotions very easy to understand, even for us non-climbers. A terrific read for those who value community, the outdoors and everyday heroes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read for Coloradans, October 2, 2007
This review is from: Playing for Real: Stories from Rocky Mountain Rescue (Paperback)
For those who live and play in the Colorado Front Range, this is a 4-star book since it's about places and events in the backyard. Not sure if it would be as interesting to those in other states however. Sometimes the writing comes across as too much self-congratulatory ra-ra, go-team-go. But the stories and history are interesting and RMRG truly is one of the best in the nation (which sadly isn't saying much).
