5.0 out of 5 stars Memphis Rock & Roll!, January 17, 2010
This review is from: Playing for a piece of the door: A history of garage & frat bands in Memphis, 1960-1975 (Paperback)
This book details the early garage bands of Memphis, Tenn. Ron Hall has interviewed hundreds of musicians of the 1960's & early 70's and come up with a distinct dictionary of the Memphis Rock and Roll sound. These are the groups that you never heard of, but some, like the Gentrys, Box Tops and Guillotines made the big time, if only for a short time. Some never made it on the national stage but still hold a special place in the hearts of Memphis music lovers. From Elvis to the Poor Little Rich Kids, this is Memphis Rock & Roll at its best.
