The 'Playlist Plus' series in a relatively new series that collects 3 CDs worth of an artists material. Unfortunately, this series doesn't come CLOSE to using up all of the space on each CD. In fact, in some cases, it is less than half the time space of the 80 minute capacity. Nitpicking aside, it's about the music right? Now, I love Lynyrd Skynyrd as much as the next guy but I have totally lost count about 10 years ago of how many Greatest Hits collections have been put out by this band. Everyone here knows the music so I guess it is best to compare this compilation with 3 of the most popular compilations of Skynyrd's music.

This collection gives you 3 discs and 29 songs for a reasonable $25. It is basically a truncated version of the box set priced at about $45-$50 which also contains 3 discs but is packed with 47 songs, an amazing booklet on the band and everything that is included here.

There is also the one disc "All-Time Greatest Hits" priced at a cheap $9 on Amazon containing 14 songs. Of course this set includes their most popular songs without any extras or album tracks.

The "Gold" collection is a two disc, 25 track collection priced at about $14 and is probably the best deal if the box set is too much Skynyrd for you.

Other than the music, which is amazing, there is not much to recommend here being the number of better Skynyrd collections already on the market.

If you're new to Skynyrd and want a taste of their better stuff, start with the one disc collection. If you're the type of person that likes the hits and some great album tracks as well, "Gold" is your best bet. If you want a comprehensive collection of the rare, live, hits and album tracks of Skynyrd without delving into the proper albums, the box set does a magnificent job.

Keep in mind that with a band as legendary as Skynyrd, no compilation can do them justice..SO....If you're still confused and have some cash, get the first 5 studio albums and perhaps the live "One More From The Road" and that will clarify everything.
