Yet another Allman Brothers Compilation,
By
This review is from: Playlist Plus (Dig) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
Universal Music just keep re-releasing the same songs these days without considering the out-takes and live stuff that linger in the vaults.
This set of songs are the best from the original line up with a few other tracks from other incarnations after Duane Allman & Berry died. If you don't have any Allman Brothers CDs then get this one. If you have them all like me don't bother.

ABB Playlist Plus,

This review is from: Playlist Plus (Dig) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
Being a fan and collector of Allman Brothers Band music since 1970, I didn't see the necessity of this product, given their other products...but, it did get me to thinking about what I would recommend as a playlist to download to create a great blues/rock listening experience from the Allmans.
Although they have a number of good studio cuts, I would pick all live cuts because that is where they shine. So, for what it's worth, try these cuts as a "playlist plus" for you: 1. Statesboro Blues from their 1971 Fillmore concerts with the late, great Duane Allman to open. 2. Next, I would pick the One Way Out cut from the 1996 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame disc (Columbia) 3. Rockin' Horse with their current group from the One Way Out concert at the Beacon in New York in 2003 4. The next cuts would be from their 2nd Set live album in 1995, You Don't Love Me. 5. Back Where It All Begins 6. Jessica (excellent - Grammy nominated) 7. From their 1st Set album (An Evening with the Allmans) in 1992, Southbound 8. Blue Sky from the same album to start to slow it down. 9. Catch your breath a bit with the slow, eerie Midnight Rider from One Way Out 10. Heat it back up with Every Hungry Woman from One Way Out at Beacon 11. Their first closer would be their best cut ever, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from the 1971 Fillmore concert. 12. Their usual closer, Whipping Post from the One Way Out album 13. Encore? your choice of Melissa from the First Set or Old Before My Time on One Way Out. Yet, I would like to see the great voice of Greg Allman do Slip Away or Before the Bullets Fly (from his solo days) live to close the experience. Of course, you cannot go wrong with most of ABB's music but this list would be special...enjoy!
