On a trip to a local Best Buy, I idly browsed the music selection when I came across a "best of" collection of Coheed. I was shocked that the band had already produced a greatest hits, but I began to consider their expanding discography and I suppose it's time for something to introduce those interested in this stellar group.

As a longtime fan of Coheed, I am not impressed with the tracklist. Here are some problems I see with it:

- Clean versions
- Mostly only contains the poppiest tracks
- "Greatest hits" format doesn't exactly work with their conceptual nature
- Ignores essential tracks like "Time Consumer", "The Crowing", "Delirium Trigger"... even "The Final Cut", which is pretty much their version of "Free Bird" in live performances
- Songs are randomly assorted without chronological or thematic reasoning

Pick up ANY of their records and you will be more pleased with it than this greatest hits. If you want a starting point, pick up In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth. Hell, we live in the Youtube age; just look them up and see if you like them. But don't waste your money or time on this mediocre collection. It doesn't do the band justice.

Ok, so the fans are going to complain about this track list. I get it, some of their greatest work is missing. Thing is, some of their greatest songs are on this list as well. This compilation covers the majority of Coheed's albums over the course of their outstanding career. Every one of these songs stands up on its own; many are the singles of the albums themselves.

I actually disliked Coheed when I first heard them (around the time A Favor House Atlantic was on the radio). Claudio has a very particular voice, and that put me off. I picked up the CD on a whim and fell in love with the band. So much of their music takes me back to memories of college and life since. Don't let any negative comments put you off about this mix. Use this compilation to get into the world (literally) of Coheed & Cambria, and then look forward to your exploration though the rest of their songs, and create your own memories. You will not be disappointed.

Ah. A compilation album from my favorite band. I won't be buying it because I already have all of these songs so there's no point. And I have a hard time recommending this to a new listener because as some of the other reviewers have said, this compilation is not the way to really get into these guys. Coheed is one of those bands that people either love them or hate them. There really is no in between with them.

I also would have made some different choices with some of the songs. I'm not a fan of The Running Free, No World For Tomorrow, and Pearl of the Stars being on here. I like the first two well enough but they are terribly out of context here and I love Pearl of the Stars but it's really out of place with the other songs on this album. For those who aren't fans, Coheed & Cambria's five albums tell the story of the Amory Wars, so they're basically all part of one large concept album. So that's what I mean about some of the songs being out of context. And how is Time Consumer left off this CD? It's basically the first song on their first album and sets the stage for everything that comes after (and before). Leaving it off this compilation is a huge oversight.

If you are a new fan who's curious about this band, my advice is go see them live. It will be one of the best shows you've ever seen, period. If you can't wait until then, go find your friend who's the biggest nerd (because that's who listens to them) and ask him/her to borrow The Second Stage Turbine Blade, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, and Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. If you don't have a nerd friend or your nerd friend doesn't like Coheed, go to YouTube, type in Time Consumer and watch the video of them performing the song at the Starland Ballroom. If you like it, go ahead and jump in with both feet and buy all their albums.

First and foremost... this only serves as a means to get you INTO Coheed. They picked good songs but there is no other way than to listen to this band than by album to album. You can start with the Year of the Black Rainbow but be aware of the transition back to early Coheed on Second Stage Turbine Blade.

I can't give this a BAD rating because I love C&C. I just implore you to listen to all of their music instead of bothering with this 'greatest hits' deal.

I'm still waiting on like a five hour animated movie too using every song. Like The Wall but a kajillion times better.

didn't know much about them until I saw them open for Iron Maiden this past summer. Great band live....now I really want to get more of their studio releases to see what the "b - sides" are like..

Love these guys and this is a great playlist. Unfortunately it is the clean version of all the songs as far as I can tell. I was dumb and missed this piece of information wherever it was hidden. Would have rather had the explicit versions of all the songs but too late now.
