This new Hall & Oates "Playlist" contains the CD/download debuts of the American single version of "I Can't Go for That" (which was an edit of the extended remix) and the single version of "Kiss on My List" (slightly different edit on the guitar solo). Plus several other rare single versions.

The sound is also quite good, not overly compressed like you'll find on many CDs today. Can't go wrong this one!

This is more a mind-boggled comment than a review, but I couldn't let this pass by uncommented upon. HOW can any disc be called "The Very Best of Daryl Hall & John Oates" and NOT include "She's Gone"?!? This is the ONE song that has been sung at EVERY single concert they have ever had! Even when they appear solo, "She's Gone" is always included in the playlist! If the producers of this album were more interested in highlighting lesser-known H&O "best", then why are 11 of the 14 songs (although I can't really quibble over the inclusion of "Sara Smile" which truly is one of the very best) ones that are included in virtually every "best of" album for this outstanding duo? Far better choices would have been "Lilly (Are You Happy)". "Promise Ain't Enough", "Hold on to Your Love", "Do It Again" and/or their huge hit "Maneater". I could accept this album had it been named "Some of the Best", but to call it "The Very Best" is a sham without the inclusion of "She's Gone". (Thank you for allowing me to vent on this. It grates on my nerves everytime something like this occurs with any artist and I felt it time to speak up.)

This is the first hits collection where the manufacturer makes a bigger deal about the "eco-friendly" packaging than the music itself.

This 14-song collection features the usual Hall & Oates hits from "Sara Smile" to "Everything Your Heart Desires". All in date order.

A nice touch is releasing 45-only versions on this album so collectors and people who have to have EVERYTHING by Daryl & John will pick this CD up.

The sound quality is good, as are the vocals, production, musicianship, etc. It's no wonder why the Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted the best music duo in the industry.

The inner notes say that there are "Full liner notes, photos, and more included as a .pdf file on this CD". I put it in the computer and in order to read the notes, you have to right-click and explore the CD in order to find the pdf file.

Another thing about the packaging, I really would like to see new pictures instead of 20-year old shots.

I saved the best news for last. This album features the remixes of "Don't Change" and "I Don't Wanna Lose You".

Overall, it's a good hits package for all the reasons stated above, but for a bigger list of hits, get the "Essential Hall & Oates", The new box set "Do What You Want, Be What You Are", or better yet, get ALL Hall & Oates CD's.

The long awaited and overdue video mix version of the classic "Out Of Touch" has finally arrived, the main reason why I purchased this CD.
Plus several other single versions on this disc also I've waited for. How did Playlist manage to do that without the politics bull? Good job! At least SOMEONE out there has the idea of what us listeners want.
For a very (VERY) picky music collector like me, it was well worth the purchase...and a reasonable price.

Would've been cool though to pay the few extra bucks to add a bonus DVD music video version of these songs. From what I know, the music video of "Out Of Touch" has not been released on DVD yet. Hopefully soon.

Also, I would've liked to see the CD in a standard CD jewel case which would've looked great on my 2,000+ CD collection shelf. I'm environmental friendly myself.... but some traditions just ain't worth messin' with.

To call this album "the very best of" is misleading. While this album has some classic hits from Hall and Oates like "Sara Smile" and "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)," I'm disappointed that the collection doesn't include "She's Gone" and "Maneater" (which was the largest hit of their career)--those songs were much bigger and better hits than some of the material that is on this album and that I'd never heard before like "Back Together Again," "Don't Change," and "I Don't Wanna Lose You." (Another #1 hit, "Say It Isn't So," also isn't on the album, but I say good riddance.) Some people might want this album for the rare 45-versions of a few of the hits on the album, but if this is your only Hall and Oates album, you'd be better off getting a collection that includes the full-length album versions of songs and all of the duo's biggest hits.

Being a fan of Hall and Oates music from the early 80s, I just had to have this MP3 album. Although there are so remix cuts on this album, it does not take away the fact that Hall and Oates were one of the greatest groups of all times. Their music will never be considered Hard Rock, but the cross between rock and roll and rhythm and blues makes their music very unique and memorable.

I just got to listen to this CD today. Enjoyed it very much. Have been working several months to get good CD's for listening to while driving - rock, but not crazy, screaming rock, just the right rhythm and some intelligence to the lyrics. This CD is now a permanent part of my truck CD's. Am still working to find more CD's.
