A Lifetime of Milestones

In the annals of popular music, Diana Ross is without rival in history-making feats.

As lead singer of the Pop group the Supremes, and as a solo artist, Diana Ross achieved the unprecedented feat of singing 18 number one hit records, second only to the Beatles at 20.

Starting a solo career in the '70s that has spanned over two decades, she ... Read more in Amazon's Diana Ross Store

Awesome selection of songs & fabulous sound mastering.

"Why Do Fools Fall In Love" was Diana's RCA debut and is one of my favorite albums of hers but I question the inclusion of her solo re-reading of "Endless Love."

I bought this CD to supplement my original issue of the "All The Great Hits" CD which covers Diana's solo Motown years fairly well but unfortunately conatins the heavily edited single version of "Love Hangover" (the current import reissue has the full-length version) This collection only includes 3 duplicates from that CD, and I was very happy to see that "Love Hangover" is restored to its original 7:48 length here. All of the tracks are full-length and the remaining 11 tracks are a nice representation of her work for RCA during the 80s. Sound quality is very nice, not overly loud although there is volume compression because all of the waveforms are uniform height, obviously cut down from louder masters. For the price though, it's a great collection. The booklet includes a short essay and 3 big full color photos along with track information. Mine came housed in a proper jewel case, unlike some previous 'Playlist' titles I have where they came in ridiculous flimsy cardboard packaging.

Firstly I'd like to mention this budget cd is very well mastered and blows away the RCA collection of Diana's hits for that label, all the songs here are full-length and the songs for the RCA hits cd consist of edits and "Pieces Of Ice" was a glaring omission. My questions lie with some of the choices here. Firstly this cd is supposed to represent Diana's RCA output but leads off with the full length version of
"Love Hangover" which can be found in it's full length version on the two disc Motown Anthology released a few years back, and this collection contains two tracks from her last album with Motown "Diana" again previously available in these exact configurations on other cd's, namely those on the Universal label. "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" was Diana's RCA debut and is one of my favorite albums of hers but I question the inclusion of her solo re-reading of "Endless Love." Granted her tenure at RCA wasn't as fruitful as projected by both the label and artist I still wish this cd was a bit more RCA intensive. Diana was a club superstar and I'd love to hear and own remastered original 12" mixes of "Pieces Of Ice" and "Chain Reaction" and "Swept Away" to name a few. Maybe in the future RCA will release on a single disc the original extended mixes but for now they are languishing on a shelf just collecting dust and that's just sad.

What a surprise! I picked up this inexpensive Diana Ross collection at Target & bought it on a whim. It turns out it's absolutely great. Awesome selection of songs & fabulous sound mastering. Very up, "feel-good" music. If you love the one and only Miss Ross, this is a must have.

I got this as a gift recently. I had all the tracks, but only because I did some digging...and spending...that I wouldn't have had to do if I'd seen this first. Except for "Love Hangover", "Upside Down", and "I'm Coming Out", these are all RCA tracks. Four of them are hits that "The RCA Years" CD annoyingly failed to include. These are "Work That Body", a #44 aerobisingle from 1982; "Pieces of Ice", the only Top 40 hit from 1983's "Ross"; "All of You", a duet with Julio Iglesias from 1984; and the title track from 1985's "Eaten Alive", which only got to #77 despite contributions from Barry Gibb and Michael Jackson.

I had "Work That Body" on a UK comp called "Capitol Disco" (Ross was on Capitol there at the time; who knew?). I splurged for "Ross" and "Eaten Alive" and found "All of You" on Julio's "1100 Bel Air Place" CD. But it was still nice to have all these songs in one place.

Why not five stars? There is one RCA hit STILL missing; the #40 "So Close" from "Silk Electric". That CD is going for stupid money right now and needs to be reissued. (Its bigger hit, "Muscles", curiously written by MJ, is included here.) They also could have included "The Boss", Diana's biggest hit between "Hangover" and "Upside Down." But it's mainly my sour grapes over "So Close". Most people either don't remember that hit or can live without it, so pretend I gave this five stars and leave me to my curmudgeonliness.
