5.0 out of 5 stars He touches your soul
I have forgotten alot of things over the years, but I still remember where I was, and what I was doing, the first time I heard Steve Perry's voice grace the radio in 1978. Over the years, I had packed up my old Journey and Steve Perry 8-tracks, then the cassettes, then the cd's, and had not listened to them in years. I pulled out those old cd's a few months ago, and OMG,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Another Greatest Hits Album???
Without a doubt, Steve Perry was the best voice rock ever had. His work with Journey was brilliant and his solo stuff was pretty good too.
The guy had an amazing instrument. Effortless singing that was always passionate, soaring, and moving. Not to mention inspiring for other singers like myself in the 80s and today.

Having said that- I find this release...

I pulled out those old cd's a few months ago, and OMG, they are even better today than they were back then. I can not stop listening to them. This man's voice is the most beautiful and intoxicating thing I have ever heard. Surely the angels pause to listen when he sings. I have re-bought all the old Journey & Perry cd's, and added this new compilation to the collection. If you are brand new to Steve Perry this is an excellent assortment of tracks from Street Talk, Greatest Hits, and FTLOSM, and you simply must buy it. If you own every album Perry ever made, or only just a few, you definately will want this one. Perry is rightfully named among the greatest singers of all times. I highly recommend this item.

Fantastic, crystal-clear recordings of the very best of Steve Perry. When will this legend get the recognition he deserves? It's like he's standing right there, singing just to you. The liner notes give great background on each song. My favorite is the live version of "Missing You". You can hear all the emotion in his voice. Steve, Happy Belated Birthday! Thank you for sharing these treasures with us! Hope the rumors are true about a new CD in the works. Until then, great way to whet our whistle! Five stars!

Having said that- I find this release strange. Perry only had TWO solo albums "Street Talk" and "For The Love Of Strange Medicine".

Perry's ALREADY had a 'greatest hits album' released. Now, once again, he's releasing another Greatest Hits Album that is largely made up of songs from the SAME two albums and others that were on the first Greatest Hits album. 2 Greatest Hits albums and 2 regular albums... How does that work???

I love this guy's voice, but this seems to really be kind of "milking the catalog for all it's worth".

Maybe this is 'greasing the skids' for the billion 'come back' rumours that we've heard over the years. Let's hope they're true this time, because as a dedicated Perry/Journey fan, I find this release pretty lame and an insult to the fans that've "Patiently" (yeah, there's a joke you've never heard) been waiting for Perry's return since leaving us high and dry with no tour and really no communication with the fans after Trial By Fire was released. I've already bought this stuff once and some of it twice because I DID buy the first greatest hits album because it had unreleased tracks on it.

A better release would've been a live disc from the FTLOSM tour. That would've been AMAZING to hear. This stuff though... I've already bought it and I don't play those anymore, so I probably won't play this either.Another possibility would be releasing the "Against The Wall" album that some of these tracks came from. That album was never released and sits somewhere. But to keep releasing the same songs....

Steve- quit 'waiting'. UN-retire and give us something new.

I'm sure I'll get blasted for this, but I'm a HUGE fan that's tired of hearing the same songs, "toast" excuses, and holding this torch for your return is starting to burn my fingers. Come on man... we're waiting. I would LOVE nothing more than to hear this guy sing again.

By the way, for those that bought this album, the music's great. The other greatest hits album is the superior of the two.

Sorry Perry fans, I'm one of you, but I want something NEW from Steve and don't need to hear Foolish Heart again in my lifetime.

Actually, Steve released more than 2 solo albums. He had 2 songs from "Quest For Camelot" included with 10 other unreleased gems on the mistitled collection "Greatest Hits + Five Unreleased" with only 5 hits from "Street Talk" & "For The Love Of Strange Medicine". That's a total of 17 tracks, 12 of which are rare or unreleased! A must for any Steve Perry fan!

Great sound and I love the notes (pdf) that Steve wrote to go with the songs. I also like the extra photos on the cd pdf.
This is really a special "Best of" because Steve picked the songs himself for it.
LOVE IT!

If you read this... HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE!

Looking for something with Steve Perry's solo work? This album is it. It features 14 handpicked tunes by Steve Perry himself, the voice of Journey from 77-87 and 95-98. If you like Journey with Steve Perry, it wouldn't hurt to give this album a try. It is has more of a pop sound to it, but it has the same song structures as Journey's and that is one of the things that keeps me coming back to this album as well as Perry's voice, he is one of my favorites vocalists of all time, if not the best! The album consists of five songs from "Street Talk," four songs from "For the Love of Strange Medicine" then the remaining five first appeared on an album when they were released on "Greatest Hits + Five Unreleased" in 1998 which were some b-sides to singles and some were some songs from the never released "Against the Wall" studio album. I think that this one was compiled better compared to the 1998 GH+5 release because the songs on here flow better together and the transitions are arranged very well. To me GH+5 appears to be an album put together to capture the mainstream pleasers and to release songs that hadn't been released at the time. This is another great Playlist release from Sony Legacy, doing what they do best, finding not just the hits but the fan favorites, the under-rated songs and even the out-of-print songs, thanks Steve and the guys and gals at Sony.
