Playmobil toys are wonderful, no question, but the more elaborate they are, the more problematic. This ship is gorgeous and has great detail, including real string rigging. This toy took forever to assemble, especially that pesky rigging, with the usually excellent insrtuctions falling short. After about a day of playing, my two boys had dismantled the ship enough that it wasn't fun anymore, and after three days I could no longer get all the parts back together. It is now a somewhat expensive box filler. The other Playmobil Pirate sets are still much loved, and have been conscripted on the nearly invincible Good Ship Fisher-Price.

My 4 year old just got it for his birthday. He loves it! It did take an evening to put it together. Some of it was a little complicated, but some my son could help with. It comes with ever part you could dream of wanting for pirate play including an accordian, little glasses, lanterns, chickens, swords, treasure chest, etc. The parts fit easily in the hands of the people. Clothes can be interchanged. There is no limit on the pretend play! And it has withstood being dropped several times with NO breaking. Occassionally a piece will unhook or snap out when dropped, but my son can easily put them back together on his own. Very Durable! It was a great buy!!!

This is a tremendous pirate ship. Playmobil is by far the best maker of toy ships. What is so great is that it looks so good and realistic while still being a toy. Disregard other reviews that say "my kids destroyed it". I taught my son, 6 at the time, to take care of his things, and after years of use it still endures. My daughters love it also. The winch, the cabin, the hold and all the other details are awesome. Clearly a classic. I have BestLock, Disney Treasure Planet, Fisher Price and other brands of Pirate ships and this is clearly the best. We even attached the Playmobil motor and sailed it around the pool. It goes so well with the other Playmobil themed toys. I wish they would come out with an even bigger ship, but this is clearly the best available and it looks so good on the bonus room shelf when not in use! As for assembly, you wouldn't expect something this great to assemble in 5 minutes, but it is soooo cool with the rigging and sails. It's the kind of toy you can display. It works great with Playmobil or Papo figures. Clearly one of the best toys in "our" collection.

I love Playmobil for the detail and sturdiness. Yes, pieces come off and need to be put back on, but that feature also allows children to engage more fully with the toy and lash Barbie to the riggings, for example. My 2 year old recently discovered the ship and was thrilled. It's big for him, on the verge of being too big to carry, but that seems to be ok for him. You should also have a large bathtub if you want to sail it in the bath because of it's size. Be aware that the goblets can get stuck in your drain so make certain you get them all out before you pull the plug, or you'll be getting a shop vac to pull the pieces out of the drain trap. My children love combining all the pieces of different sets so not only does Barbie go sailing with the pirates, but so do farm tractors and a Pride of Lions. Wonderful fun, but save the reassembly directions for all your Playmobil in a binder.

We got this for our pirate-obsessed 4 year old for Christmas - it's now August, and I'd guess that he has played with it almost every day since then. I know some people complain about its fragility and the "tiny-ness" of some of the pieces, but I think this is a great way to teach a child to care for his belongings - we've still got just about every piece, included those four tiny wine goblets. It's also great for developing small muscle control - our son has gotten very adept at putting tiny swords in tiny hands, and loves mixing and matching hair, beards, etc. It's probably not for every child - but I pretty much worship Playmobil!! No other toys come close to capturing pur son's imagination and attention!

Playmobil is Great!,

We bought our youngest son the pirate ship seven years ago when he was four. He is now eleven, and is asking for this new updated ship. He has played with the old one for years, outside in the pool, inside, along with the big king castle, and countless other sets that we have. Yes, Playmobil. is delicate, and young children can be taught how to play with it, there are alot of small pieces, but like Lego, it will and does encourage a child's imagination, rather than stifle it. We have Castles, western forts, city sets, boats, all of it! It does take time to put together, but some of the best memories are of me and my boys putting together some of these intricate playmobil sets the day after Christmas! When you buy toys for your kids, don't look at a toy and say "what does it do", rather look at a toy and ask "what can my child do with this toy"? Playmobil has been one of the toys that my three boys have stayed with along with legos well past Christmas, much more, than anything else. I am keeping all of our collections for our grandchildren.

beautifully detailed toy suitable for an older child,

This toy is very detailed and contains lots of very tiny pieces, wine goblets, weapons, mice, birds. It has every little accessory you could want, but the main problem is that everything is so tiny. Pieces are very easy to lose inside the ship or in your home. They are hard to manipulate because they are so small. The ship takes a long time to assemble with its sails and rigging. It is a beautiful toy with much to play with, but it's not a good toy for little ones. I bought it for my 4-year-old, and he likes it, but doesn't play with any of the little extras, only the cannon (which does not shoot cannon balls, they just sort of fall out). He isn't able to put the swords or goblets, etc., into the pirates' hands by himself. I think this would be a better toy for an older child, perhaps 8.

The most popular toy in our home!,

This review is from: Playmobil Pirate Ship (Toy)
I purchased this pirate ship for my son's fourth birthday. This is by far the most popular toy in our house! My 8 year old son and 6 year old daughter also love this toy. There are so many items that come with the ship - from canon balls, swords, treasure chest full of goodies, food, animals and even jewelery for the pirates - they are never bored. My four year old plays on his own, or with his friends, and when all three are home they all play together. Definitely worth the investment for the amount of joy this toy has brought to our home!!

Perfect Pirate Ship For Older Kids,

I debated buying this ship for my son's 8th birthday (thought maybe it would be too 'young') and decided to get it after my 10.5-year-old daughter insisted that her brother would love it.Always trust a child's instinct. My son received it today for his birthday and it kept both of the kids busy for HOURS. They didn't want to go to bed because they were still playing with the ship. Also, my 10.5-year-old daughter did most of the set up. She was able to follow the instructions without a hitch; I know younger children would not have the attention span and fine motor skills to do all of the constructing. This is my son's first Playmobil set and it is a winner. He's already perusing the catalog to see what other pirate sets he wants!

My son saw this pirate ship and wanted it, even though he had a beautiful large wooden one. I gave in and bought it for him for his birthday. It's loaded with little pieces that make the detail impressive. My husband put it together, and it didn't take him very long to do. I highly recommend it as a great pirate ship for any age.
