Every year Playmobil has a different historical theme and this year it's the Egyptians. The Egyptians have been available in Europe since March and they're finally here in the US.The entire Egyptian line includes this set, the Sphinx, a temple a ship and multiple small sets of figures and accessories. This Pyramid is literally the cream of the crop, not only in this theme, but one of the best designed Playmobil sets ever. I'm not sure if I should go into too much detail here since customers might want to discover all the tricks of this set by themselves and actually if they wanted to, look them up on the internet. Suffice it to say that this is the most intricate, detailed and best designed Playmbil building set ever. It really is very well engineered and designed. The set itself is a pyramid, and it can be opened up. Inside you will find two levels with a bunch of tricks and traps designed to defeat grave robbers, and ultimately if the robber is successful, he will find the Pharoah's tomb. This the first time I can recall that Playmobil has come up with a set with as many movable items inside of it. This set is expensive, the most expensive in this theme, but it's well worth the money. For those not familiar with Playmobil, all it's products are of the highest quality. Everything is well made, thought out and designed by this great German company which has been popular in Europe for decades but only relatively recently in the US. Playmobil is the Mercedes of toy brands. The great secret about Playmobil is that there are tons of add ons. If you get this set, you probably won't be satisfied with it and will want to get all the other sets in this theme until you build an entire Egyptian kingdom. You can buy as many or as few sets as you wish, you can accessorize them any way you want. And there is an entire world of collectors out there with internet guides, catalogs and forums where you can hang out with like minded people. I really like this set because it is just so fun and I highly recommend it.

ANOTHER GREAT ADDITION,

MY two small sons love Playmobil and their new Egyptian line is one of their best yet! This pyramid is the main set - and most expensive - in this line with a lot of additional smaller and cheaper sets available to add to their fun. The boys can play with this set for hours and I love that it encourages creative play. Some of the recent Playmobil additions did not go over too well with my boys. The Romans and Circus did not last long. This one brought smiles, exclamations of joy as they discovered the hidden areas and hand tugging as they showed me what they discovered. At a little over $100, you want a toy to be worth it. Although I have noticed a slight deterioration in quality from older sets, it is solid and better built then 95% of the toys out there. This combined with the hours of enjoyment equals a great buy in my book. There is an order form for an interactive CD if returned with copy of receipt. So for the price of a stamp, you get a free CD. Maybe it's a reward for all the stickers you need to affix to this set. Be forewarned, you need a steady hand since you need to get this right on the first attempt. For those parents concerned with the manufacturing: Playmobil has production plants in Malta, Spain and the Czech Republic. It helps not having to worry about safety issues (lead paint comes to mind) when purchasing your child's toy.

I've just spent a couple of hours building this set with my ten year old son. (I did the stickers; he did everything else.) We marveled at the amount of detail this includes. Not only are there the tricks to defeat the grave robber, there's the four urns with appropriately shaped lids, and the skeleton inside the mummy wrappings inside the sarcophagus. I've always enjoyed the quality and durability of Playmobil - this set impresses me with the educational value as well.My son says, "I think this set is cool because it has so many things!"

This price is outrageous!!! The Playmobil website has this in stock for $104 and Toy R Us had it for $83.99. If you have to wait for after Christmas do it. Amazon is taking full advantage of people who are looking for a hot toy. Playmobil Pyramid

I love that Playmobil toys allow for creative play and hours of fun. The pyramid is currently my favorite set. I've had a chance to look it over on display and it is overflowing with detail and charm. I've purchased this item and am looking forward to surprising my boyfriends 7 year old son this Christmas :).On a side note, I am entirely disapointed by the prices currently offered by Amazon. They are not at all competitive or within range of the manufacturers selling price. As of 11/24/09: $180-$225 is the selling price listed on Amazon (excluding shipping). You can go directly to Playmobil's website and purchase this item for only $105 (even with shipping, you won't come anywhere near the prices shown here).

I read many of the reviews and even saw this product in a toy store. I even had some playmobile toys as a girl and really liked them. I felt very confident that this was a good buy.I bought this for an 11 year old boy. I also have a 5 year old boy. They played with it a lot the first day....not so much, afterwards. They both recieved a playmobil set for their birthdays (the 11 year old recieved the pyramid and the 5 year old recieved the barn) and they continue to play with the small characters and animals and other little pieces. The pyramid and the barn, however, do not stay together very well. The pieces are well made, but they don't stay connected (if that make any sense). We do not have a dedicated space for these toys. They are moved from space to space and every time you pick them up to move to a new location they fall apart. I guess in a way this is good because we just take them apart to store, but they are not getting played with much because they have to be put back together to be enjoyed. Just something to thing about, since it is a rather pricey toy.

My son got this Pyramid (along with the sphinx and temple) for Christmas 08 and still plays with it almost daily. These toys are amazing. The attention to detail is amazing. There are soooooo many pieces. We have tiny knopic jars and amulets and bracelets and tons of other little bits and bobs. He loves every one of them. For Christmas 09 he got the Egyptian ship (he got the Roman Galley for his birthday) and the Roman Coliseum, which is out of this world HUGE. He spends hours (thank you Playmobil!) in his room setting up elaborate battles between the Romans and Egyptians (and the Vikings, because, hey, why not? He has their fort and ship too!) and staging gladiator battles in the coliseum. Dh and I have decided these will not be toys we get rid of, but save for his children. Dh and I like to play with these toys too. They are fantastic for imaginative play. While they are pricey, they are worth every penny.

Please don't pay these egregious prices. Check out Canadian toy stores, they all ship to the US and the cost is the list price.

This is the only toy my son asked for for Christmas. It has been in the flyers that have been coming out in the last few weeks and it is advertised for 20% off at Toys R Us. $83.99 would be the total price if you were to find it in their store. However it is out of stock everywhere. I refuse to pay $189 + for it. I understand supply and demand, but check your local small toy stores. A lot of them carry Playmobil playsets and they may be a little more than a big toy store, but it is not the highway robbery that is going on here. I am just glad I did some research before I ordered it thinking that was the regular price.
