I just love this line of Playmobil's historical adventure sets. Every year Playmobil has a different historical theme and this year it's the Egyptians.

The entire Egyptian line includes this Sphinx, a pyramid, a ship, a temple and several smaller sets of camels, houses and Egyptian figures.

What I like about Playmobil:
1) Incredible quality. Playmobil sets are of the highest quality plastic, there are no dangerous chemicals or paints in their sets. The plastic pieces and will pretty much last forever; a friend in Germany sent me a few sets which he had when he was a kid and they're still in very good shape. So to me these are a long term investment.
2) Because of the high quality of these sets I'd even recommend educators use these in their classroom to teach.
3) Playmobil collecting is a worldwide hobby, some of the discontinued items become collectible and there are many fan sites and forums where you can share news, events and chat.

This particular set is the sphinx. It's a fairly accurate rendition of the actual Great Sphinx in Eygpt. It comes on a sand colored base and a few figures plus a special key. Admittedly, the playvalue here is not as high of the other big Egyptian sets such as the pyramid or the boat, but I had to get it as part of my collection. The designers of this set probably had a bit of wishful thinking as they included a mummy to be discovered inside their sphinx, something which some real archeologists have wished for, but which has not been proven. Still it's very nicely made and will make a very important part of any junior Egyptologist's collection!

My boys were not overly impressed with the Sphinx but I think it had more to do with getting it at the same time as the pyramid. That pyramid set is hard to beat!

The Sphinx has a cool hidden entry that can only be opened with the key. They loved that part and the hidden spot is pure Playmobil artistry in its mechanics. However, the key is necessary to open it properly and my boys got frustrated when they couldn't find the key right away. I sense problems with this down the line if the key ever gets lost. Thankfully, it is the same key for the pyramid. The price seems a little steep for a one trick pony but.....

From my view, the educational value of learning about an early civilization combined with creative play makes this line worth every cent. My only concern is the longevity of the key that helps open the hidden door.

I bought this for my four year old grandson for Christmas. He loved it as it completes his sets of Egyptian Playmobil. However, the Sphinx's tomb door was a little hard to get to work correctly. But, he loved that the mummy was inside when we did get it to work.

My son is 4 and had been asking for any of the Eqyptian playmobil sets for quite awhile. He decided this was the one he wanted more than any others. The toy is durable but it is a larger building that they really cant do anything with but put items into the small trap door area. There is also a small key that is needed to open the trap door and I am afraid it will be easily lost. We own probably more than 30 large playmobil sets and this is the first one that I am disappointed with in anyway. He says he likes it and he does mess with it some but there just seems to be little that can be done with it. Maybe if it was in addition to other sets in the Eqyptian line it would be better. Overall, we love the playmobil line, just not sure of this set.

This is a great addition to the Playmobil offerings. It, and the other Egyptian items, inspired my five year old great grand son to want to learn about this ancient culture. I recently gave this toy to my grandson for Christmas. He actually had it on his Christmas list. I wasn't able to find it at the toy store, but Amazon had it, luckily. He loves the Playmobile toys. They are a lot of fun and very durable.

my 5 years old girl dream about this toy, but when she finally get it, she dont play it as much as I think. but is ok, is durable and nice if you like playmobils

This was a Birthday Present for my 6 year old nephew who is VERY into Egypt. He absolutely adores the Sphinx and has put this set as the centerpiece to all his other "Egyptian collection" toys. Highly recommended.

My Grandaughter loved this set- she is studying Egypt in Social Studies at School. She found it entertaining and easy to play with. The addition of the Playmobil Egyptian Family added to the set made for a many hours of play with a friend or alone.

I love all the Playmobil stuff. Its very original and durable and the pieces are not so small. It's not only educational but cool and my kids don't outgrow these toys at all. I bought my son the castle about 3 years ago and even though I had problems with the assembly he loves it and still plays with it. I just wish I could buy them all.
