First, the bad. Out of the water, this thing is HEAVY. The skids and counterweight should be Clue weapons. With a little practice, a lot of patience, and forearms of steel, you can get the sub to raise and dive. More often than not, however, the deep sea diver (another Playmobil toy) would be called in for a rescue operation. Finally, when bumped hard, the searchlights and arms have a bad tendency to fall off. Luckily, the go back on easily.

You'd think this is a negative review. Quite the contrary. My son went nuts for this. The fairly powerful motor allowed the submarine to cruise at a not-too-fast pace. The fake impellers spun as well, enhancing the fantasy. The toy is very durably built and the decals are painted on. The bath water went cold as he was rescuing sharks, giant octopi, and pirates. The great design of the claws allowed him to manipulate and pick-up objects (he salvaged a pirate treasure). He even noticed that the crew compartment stayed dry.

I would recommend also getting the deep diver with suit, as they spent a lot of time rescuing each other.

Bought this sub for my 6-year old son for Christmas. He loves it! My son can utilize the pump to submerge or surface the sub in the bathtub. Incredibly life-life in that the sub's cabin remains dry when submerged, so the action figures stay dry too! Cabin is easily accessible, except the front seat can be a little tricky to load up with an action figure, but this is not an insurmountable task. The sub also comes with a motor for propulsion. This is a very durable and educational toy...teaches kids about how subs submerge and surface.
