5.0 out of 5 stars Great starter ship, October 24, 2007
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Playmobil Pirate Corsair (Toy)
This is Playmobil's beginner pirate ship and it's a great way to start out with Playmobil.

1) All Playmobil products are of the highest quality. Everything is well made, thought out and designed by this great company which has been popular in Europe for decades but only relatively recently in the US. Playmobil is the Mercedes of toy brands.

2) This is Playmobil's starter pirate ship with the least amount of accessories, and it's also the least expensive. Playmobil has been releasing the Corsair in different color schemes, trims and accessories. If you like this color and scheme, you shouldn't wait because once it's gone Playmobil won't make this exact same scheme and trim again.

3) This ship is not for any child under 7 or so, because this isn't a throw away toy. It's very well designed and "realistic" pirate ship with rigging and sails. If your child is younger, you might want to keep the small acessories in their bags first and not rig the sails or rigging. You can play just as well without them. This ship floats and you can buy a add on motor to make it go.

4) The great secret about this ship and Playmobil in general is that there are tons of add ons. You can buy additional pirates to beef up your crew or government forces to fight against them, plus forts and additional cannons, etc. This ship will grow with your child. If you have any questions about Playmobil there are several on-line guides, catalogs and forums where you can hang out with like minded people.

6) In conclusion, this is a great starter ship at a great price and a great introduction to Playmobil. Once you get hooked on Playmobil, you'll won't be able to help buying more Playmobil stuff. I don't know if that'll be a good thing or not.

Both of my boys are pirate lovers (age 7 and 10) and they both love all the Playmobil. Playmobil are great toys to improve imagination because they are in no way related any media like cartoons or film. It allows them to pretend whatever they wish. It is also great in the tub. We have Playmobil that has lasted 6 years plus in great shape minus a few parts that have been lost.

I bought this as a gift for my nephew since he loves pirates and this corsair is exactly what the doctor ordered. The ship is very detailed but not overwhelmingly so. It does take some time to assemble. So, if this is going to be a gift, I would recommend putting it together in advance as it took me about 1.5 hours to assemble. If you have smaller kids, you may want to keep some of the smaller parts such as the dozens of little coins that come to put in the pirate coffer. The ship not only floats but also has little wheels so they can roll it on the ground or, more likely, your antique, wooden table.

Just a little side story: I have had Playmobils since I was about 5, back in 1984 or so. The fact that the exact, same toys my brother and I used to play with back in the 80's are being used by my little nephew is a testament to the quality and workmanship of the Playmobil line. After around 25 years, my old astronauts and knights are still in tip top shape and entertaining a new generation of little imagineers.
